Honda fuel connector

Help, can anyone tell me where to find fuel connectors for my 1998 Honda 40 engines? They are the ones that fit the round locking post. Everytime I order some online they send me the ones with the rectangular hole or one that is supposed to fit a Yamaha or a Honda and of course none of them fit. I've got a drawer full of useless to me connectors. Anyone?

Hi there Honda being very aggressive against after market product, it's tough to find any that fit. Best bet is your normal Honda dealer, more expensive but they fit. That's just the way it is with Honda. George
 
Thanks George, I guess the Honda dealer is the route I'll have to take even though they are many times the aftermarket price.. By the way, I really enjoyed your past walkabout posts and pics.

Yep, She`s both pretty and tuff. Have`nt had much of a chance to play with Tonka as we didn`t get our hands on her until late last fall after about a year of searching. Still months before the ice melts off the lakes here. Can hardly wait. In the meantime I spend my time watching this site and daydreaming about getting on the water.

Sorry this is so late. Maybe you've solved the problem already but this might be helpful to others.

The reason you can't get the connector you want is because it was discontinued many years ago and your dealer (any dealer) can't get them.

All I can tell you is that one day Honda announced (to us dealers) that there were new fuel fittings with rectangular support pins. The fittings with the round support pins disappeared almost overnight. It wasn't a phase out/phase in situation...they were just gone...bam!

If you want to use the "official" Honda fittings what you need to do is change out the fitting on the engine to the new style with the rectangular support pin. It's held in place with a single 10mm head bolt (easy to get to and not a real pain to change). Honda has a kit that has both the engine fitting and the hose fitting. After that you you'll be able to purchase single hose fittings as needed.

The issue with aftermarket fittings is that they're not metric (like for the Johnson/Evinrude). They work ok until the o-ring in the fitting dries out or gets hard and then they leak.

I have no argument regarding the prices for the Honda fittings, they're stupid expensive. And there's not much mark-up in them either so a dealer can't discount a whole bunch to make them competitive. :(

Thanks for the info Les. I had other sources tell me about the same thing but me being a rather hard headed sort I was holding out hope that I would come across some of the old style. From what I have read in other posts it seems that you know your stuff so I guess I'll go ahead and change over to the new style. I agree that Honda prices are high but as they say " you can't put a price on fun ". And this boat is FUN!!

Hi Clint,

I think if the change had been a fairly recent thing there'd be some hope but it's been quite a few years now. I know all of our "old style" connectors have long since been gone.

There's probably one of more sitting on a shelf at some dealership somewhere but I can't tell you how to find it. We just don't have that sort of information available.
