Honda 60 on a Classic?

Hi Gang,
I was down at the Honda dealer today and noticed the new Honda 60. Has anyone tried one of these motors on an old Classic? I always thought the Honda 75 (which I have) and the 90 were a tad too heavy for the old hull design. It looks like the new 60 is about the same weight as the old Johnson 70 which just about everybody used to run on these boats many year ago.

We've had many threads on the old BF50 being too small, but maybe giving up 15 hp compared to a 75 to lose over 100 pounds on the transom might be a reasonable trade off?

Best regards,
Mike

Mike-

My opinion is that it would be to little power for heavier loading, but if you were always alone or with only one other person and ran purposely light and without much gear, like Dusty, you might be Ok.

You'd still have the low resale value/desirability, though.

Joe. :teeth :thup

Not really light, Joe.

Where the bunks used to be -- fishing rods, tackle boxes, etc.

Where the Porta Potti used to be -- bucket.

Water system -- thermos of coffee and 6 pack of water (sometimes 6 pack of something else)

Single burner Wallas, no sink.

Must admit that the motorcycle house battery is a little heavy.

Been eye-balling that new 60 Honda that EQ has on display.

Dusty we bought a 22 cruiser with 50hp honda it would get on plane at about 12mph top out at 16mph so the 60hp should get you to about 18-19 with a real light load . We had 3 people the day I tested the Duck with the 50hp.Joe is right the resale will be hurt because of the 60hp If you intend to keep the boat forever then thats another case. I think your fuel mileage will be about the same as a 75-90 hp because the 60 will be working a lot harder . YOU might want to look at a used motor for less money ? Good luck with your quest for the right outboard

Jim,

Just having fun with my ol' buddy Joe. We have a three-year old Yamaha 90 (fuel injected) and a Yamaha 6 kicker. I'd buy the 60 Honda in a NY second if looking to repower. First reports I have on the 60 is it's a strong 60 -- perhaps downrated.

Best,

Dusty
