Higher-end Boat Chairs

Searched the archives and have seen many choices for cock-pit seating

Personally have had six of the Wise type aluminum folding chairs over the years but they just don't store easily on such a small boat as the 22 cruiser

When I bought the boat I was thinking more along the lines of using beanbag chairs that could be stored on top of the cabin

But the bean bags are too much like sitting on the floor and I need a place to tie my shoes in the morning and sit up a bit more normally

Forma Marine Chairs

Any of y'all have any experience with these?

Kind'a like that director's chair but the others I'd think would be more stable

Oh, and BTW, I'm not little; six foot and 230 lbs and want something that won't collapse or feel tippy.

Not worried about the sliding factor, always had to put true rubber feet on my chairs from the local medical supply.

Been researching the same.
Started with folding camp and beach chairs, but had a bad sliding incident.
Bought a couple of West Marine beanbags on sale afterward, but found the same issue as you.
I'm slowly "recycling" styro packaging trying to build up the stuffing, but I doubt it will make much difference.

After reading through the boating forums last week, decided the next try is going to be the Garelick deck chair.
Good reviews, but like you said, hard to store on a small boat.

Following along to see if there are better experiences.

Sent e-mail to Forma in France

Asked them what chair they recommend for heavy loads

Have ordered 3/4" Bedrug material for deck so sliding won't be an issue

We use folding camping chairs like these. 2 fit in a 25 cockpit and they're cheap enough to replace every few years. they fold up into a small tube shape, whereas the others fold into a bulky rectangle. they can be stored under the table.

Boris

We had chairs like those a few times. They always seem to break the plastic bits where they fold. Gave up on them.

Now we have a pair of these from WM. Got them on sale once for half price. Don't fold up as small, but are much more durable IMO.

I've looked at those from West Marine

Did they fix whatever it was that they were recalled for?

And the recall is why they were on sale

Those would be fine too and WM is right down the road

There was an issue with some of the bolts holding the chairs together. My WM chairs came apart pretty much first time I tried them. I seem to recall that they used bolts that were too short and had cap nuts on them which easily came off. For a couple of $ I replaced the problem bolts with longer ones and fiber lock nuts. No problems after that. If you can get them at 1/2 price, I think that they are a great deal. Better than any chairs we used up to that point.

That's good news, looked at them in the store a while back; thanks for posting.

I agree on the WM chair having the bolts fall out. Every few weeks I'd see see new bolt or nut lying on floor, and just keep replacing them with proper locking nuts as they fall out. Buy ONSALE
