Hi folks
I'm getting ready to build a carport for our 22' c-dory.
Our boat doesn't have a high radar arch yet but I would like one in the future
any idea how much room I should leave between the roof line and ceiling of the carport for this
Looking at pics it seems to me its not much higher then our anchor light

Blackfish,
We have a garage with a ten foot high door. Our CD22 fits through the door with the anchor light mast up.....but with little to spare. You could buy another foot or so by taking down the mast but a ten foot opening should be okay.

thanks Tom
I was thinking of putting a tall radar arch on the boat and was thinking 10"
would not do it but I'll take another look in the morning light
We where up at Quadra this summer with our 16' aluminum (before we got the c-dory) sure had fun can't wait to explore the waters up there with the c-dory
cheers blackfish

I think with the tall radar arch and a furuno dome on top, I'm closer to 11' on the trailer. I'll run out with 2 x 4 and a tape measure later in the day to check.

Once radar is on the arch you may want to relocate the all around light to a higher position on the arch. Then the light is the highest point. With my low radar arch my all around light is 10' 2" on the trailer add a foot for the high arch.

Blackfish, There are several variables to consider. How high is the arch going to be? I don't have one but my neighbor does. He has a 12 foot high door, he has a high arch and he has a few inches clearance. Will yours be the same height as his? I don't know if his is a custom or factory, but you could check with the factory and find out how high a factory one is and that would give you a starting place. Next variable: The tire and wheel sizes. Larger tires and wheels will rase the axel height. Does the trailer have bunks or rollers? Is your approach to the door and floor level or sloped? Is your approach a straight in, or do you have to back around a 90 degree angle? If so, you may want a wider door as well. On a level ground I would want a 12 foot door at least. I don't think that he keeps his all-around light up when trailering, so I don't know that that would clear.
I know this is just a bunch of questions at this point but I hope it will help ferret out what you need. I am considering a simular project, and like you I don't have an arch now but would like to add one in the future. In reality, the garage will probably come first, so I am answering the same set. Good luck,

Hardee called me for data on this question. I store the J.C.Lately in an oversize garage the entry door for which is a 12' x 12' sectional overhead door. The boat is approx 11'-6" +/- a couple on the trailer and is a standard CD22 cruiser with a high arch and a Raymarine Pathfinder 2kw Radar (18" radome antenna). There's no mfr's label on the arch, but Les at E.Q. rigged the boat and could probably tell you where he bought it.

There is no substitute for good planning. Good luck.

Here's a pix of our 22 (now dearly departed) in the high bay garage. It had a radar on a 12" pedestal with an anchor light above. Probably equivalent to a low radar arch. Plenty of clearance on a single axle Long Trailer. Door was 12' tall and 10' wide.
