Pretty aggressive in this market ! I think the 70 is pretty interesting . A pair on a 25 or 26V might be pretty sweet!

Engines - all four stroke:
Inshore -200, 225, & 250 HP as light as ANY competitive direct injected 2 stroke, better hole shot, more fuel efficient.
Offshore - 225-250-& 300 HP new block, huge alternator, and a 300HP that's lighter than the current F250
Repower - reintroduction of the F250TXR & LF250TXR with cable shift/throttle for less costly repowers
Midrange - 70 HP that's lighter that any other 70. It's more than 100lbs lighter than our F75
Portable - new 4 and 6 HP - The 6 is over 20 lbs lighter than our current 6 HP four stroke

Rigging -
Propellers - new hub system with "Shift Dampener System" SDS
Four blade props for the V8 engines
Ventless props for the new inshore engines
Command Link Plus - 5" high resolution color display, Quad engine controls, & more.
Security - YCOP Yamaha Customer Outboard Protection

I sat through the webinar on these, and they do look interesting.

I think Yamaha misfired with the V8 300, so the V6 300 is a good move. I think the introduction of the V-Max SHO (Super High Output) 4 strokes is a good move, although they may have some uphill battle convincing the bass guys that a 4 stroke can outperform a 2 stroke. I expect the bulk of the marketing to focus on these engines.

Interesting to see the new 4 and 6 horse motors. These (especially the 6) will compete better with everyone else's line up. The motor can be set on three sides, and features a primer bulb system for easier starts from the internal tank.

In the Northwest we'll probably never see any VMax models. We'll see what pricing will be on these motors. The new V6 models are said to be going into production "soon" (first quarter 2010) and I expect to see them mid year, the F70 is said to be in production now, 4 and 6 may be mid next year before we see them. I would not expect to see any of these at the spring boat shows (but I have been wrong before...)

It looks like it's 260#.

Just 10# more than my Johnson 70 2 stroke.

I wonder how fuel economy will compare to other 4 strokes ?

The smaller displacement 70 working harder versus a larger displacement 90 (or 115) loafing along.

Yamaha is marketing the new F70 as an alternative to their discontinued 70 and 90 2 strokes. I'm not sure what that means for perfromance on say, a 22 Cruiser versus the bigger F75 / F90.

How do you guys see the new Yamahas matching up against the Suzuki lineup? Does Suzuki have new models coming online soon?

Warren

The new Suzuki 60 looks like it will be a winner, and my hope is that the future 40 and 50 will be built on this new block.

I was surprised that with all the new introductions that Yamaha didn't address the two biggest holes intheir line up- 135 and 175.

The new 300 V-6 Yamaha will match up better with Suzuki's 300, which has been a great performer. The new 225 / 250 / 300 will all be fly by wire, which works well on new installations. Repower buyers have been hesitant to invest in the more expensive controls and gauges, so the return of the mechanical F250 of a few years ago while aurprise, makes sense.

Forgive my enthusiasm but here is some more F70 info...

The MSRP on the F70 starts at $8,745... a competitive number compared to the price of their current models... $8,045 for a 60 hp or $9,375 for the 75 hp. The F70 comes with a newly-designed anti-knock sensor that adjusts to changes in fuel makeup. With ethanol in today's gasolines and federal officials wanting a higher percentage of it in the future, this could be quite a feature.

Been doing a comparison between the Suzuki and Yamaha 115.
The Yamaha is lighter at 406 lbs but only produces 25 amps. The real question on both of these motors: how much amperage is available for charging? I’m leaning toward the Yamaha only because the dealer here is great to do businesses with and there’s a ton of satisfied Yamaha owns in Alaska.

This is exactly what I am keeping my eyes on too, to repower the 22 in a couple of years with a 115 and a high-thrust 8. Like you, I have noticed the preference for Yamahas not only in Canada/Alaska but also in Florida. However, the Suzuki performance has been better, up to now.

All this is good.

Engineering better product is the way today.

I am very curious to see how the new engines stack up against the E-tec's.

Weight to horsepower in particular.

Standing by. :cocktail

Talked with Anderson Marine as they were getting ready to go to the anouncement meeting in the area for Yamaha. They sell enough Yamaha goods to make the trip to Japan each year and they do my motor work. Good feedback...and they do a lot of bass boat work so good news for them too.

Other reports from BOATTEST.com also had good stuff......with pictures and charts..( :thup :thup :photo :photo :thup :thup :smiled )

AND....they will actually now have altenators (70amp) on the Yama motors now!!! Had to trade in a pair of 115s for pair of 150s just for more altenator power for the dual ZF Mathers controls...and full complement of Raymaine toys and other gizmos on a boat of mine.

So....will be interesting to see these new improved motors hit the markets. Those who have held on to the 2-stroke 70hp motors may now have a modern replacement!!! AND...the dingy crowd will have 4 & 6hp motors to look into also.

Thinks this is the link to the boattest reports/release??

This is extremely interesting news (the new 70 HP being 100# lighter!!!!!! WOW). We have been hesitant for years to repower our Johnson 70 with the heavyer new 4 strokes always waiting and wondering if the wt would come down. The CD needs to stay as light as possible to maintain its unique characteristics. Thats what sets us apart from other comparable sized boats. Its going to take some time unfortunately to know if this technology is going to work out. Any word on Honda heading this direction?

Perhaps this is great news for CD25 owners as well.

I know a few folks have gone the twin route on their 25's, but the weight issue always raised a red flag for me. If my quick scan of popular 135/150 weights are accurate, looks like a pair of these would only add ~50 lbs. to a CD25 over a single - making it lighter than a single + kicker.

Keep in mind that these motors are a ways away from being available.

While price information has just been made available, I don't expect to see these motors until early summer. Suzuki has been showing their new 60 for months now, but it isn't available yet.

As far as the new Yamaha 70, the new Suzuki 70 / 80 / 90 were redesigned last year, and their weight is very good at 341 pounds. Suzuki also has offset powerheads on all motors 60 horsepower and up now.

Hey Matt and others: Bringing this here from another link where Roger/SENSEI is selling a motor...and felt this better fit this link and would keep us from "hi-jacking" Rogers attempt to sell his motor. We all know how we can "wonder" off topic....

Info on the Yamaha Offshore motors...or at least the larger ones.... 225-300 hp range.... on the upgraded/new V-6 4.2 liter ....
