I just opened my August copy of Canadian Yachting and got a nasty shock. In a recently tabled federal budget MR. HARPER ordered budget cuts that affects Parks Canada. One area targeted was the operating budget for these 2 canal systems. The proposed changes means Parks Canada "would be aligning its seasons, hours of operation and service to better reflect patterns of visitations".

Yes - lets just rush everybody thru in July - when it is already overcrowded!!! :amgry

NMMA Canada organized a rally on Parliament Hill - pointing out to them that the boating industry contributes $15.6 billion dollars to the Canadian economy, including $5 billion from the tourism sector. They have agreed to leave the status quo in place for this season but for 2013 the situation is uncertain.

Don't be shy - right or e mail our beloved Prime Minister and tell him to leave our little part of The Great Loop alone!!!

Regards,Rob

Why not raise the price of traveling the canal to non residents and residents. Have off season rates to help encourage folks to enjoy the fall colors etc. and spread out the season a little. Make people speak French. Have crazy gas prices. Call everyone hosiers. :) Make it so you can't use a portapottys. Don't make me send Keith Richards back up there. :unlove Do American tourists get free medical services while in Canada? What is the current exchange rate?
D.D.

Hey DD you can send Keith Richards back up here anytime!! :D

If you apply to immigration for refugee status they will give you free medical, welfare, subsidized housing, a pension, an education, and then when you are smarter than us they will give you our jobs!!

Meanwhile, back at the Trent,,,,,,,,, I would not be against your idea of paying more if that was neccesary. The changes won't really affect me because I always go the beginning of Sept. and don't travel very far in 1 day. A shorter season and shorter lock hours will be devastating to many businesses tho, such as houseboat operators, and captains who use the Trent to deliver boats from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay, etc.

Anyway, we will see what happens next tear.

Regards, Rob

Robert,
I hope they don't rise prices up too much! The Trent Severn is on our bucket list which is longer than the time I think I have left on this good earth. Anyway hopefully if we make it to the Trent Severn we could have a face to face meeting and you could buy me something. If I go for the Canadian immigrant status thing I'll buy you a drink. :cocktail How is Mrs. Trudeau looking these days? Probably better than Keith. :cigar
D.D.

DD - you remember Mrs. Trudeau aye ? She was a good looking woman back in the day!!

I got a good idea for you, a trade sort of - you send us Keith Richards and we'll let you keep Celine Dion in Vegas!!

Regards, Rob
