Height of 22 Cruiser with various options

Hello Everyone,

We are getting closer to purchasing a C-Dory 22 Cruiser. We will be keeping the boat at Twin Bridges Marina and are trying to keep the overall height under 8 feet to avoid extra monthly fees. How high is the 22 with the regular top and radar? Hight top and radar?

The radar will either be mounted directly to the cabin top of on a short pedestal.

I take it you want a measurement from the water line up? Not on the trailer?
 
Twin Bridges is a dry stack facility, so from the lowest point on the hull to the highest point.

We kept C-Dancer at Twin Bridges for 3 seasons until last September. They do a great job and we really miss them.

I added a radar arch and radome last year and I seem to remember the height with the tall radar arch was about 9 1/2 feet, give or take a few inches but definitely under 10 feet. I guess they changed the height restrictions because we were not charged extra after adding the arch. I guess if we go back, we will no longer get the lower rate. :cry

C-Dory's site says the boat is 6'6"...is that from the waterline or the bottom? Does anyone know if with a radome and high top I will still be under 8 feet?

I dont' think the high top makes a difference in the overall height because the radar arch is mounted at the same location as the "low" top versions and that height is no different.
 
We are not installing a radar arch at all. The radome will be mounted directly on the hardtop. Basically, will I be under 8 feet with the high top and a radome, measured from the lowest fixed point on the boat to the highest (radome)?
 
with the radar on you will need min a 10 ft high box the standard cd -22 needs a 9ft high berth because they will take away 2 ft they usually use 2by 10 for the foundation and they need about a ft or so to manuver the boat in . the standard boat itself is 6ft 8 in from top to bottom so a 9ft berth gives them a little wiggle room . We dry stacked the duck for many yrs and 9ft was the min that we could use . Dry stack is a great way to go
 
I have the low radar arch. This arch would also fit the high top version so that shouldn't make any difference. From keel to anchor light is 8' 2" on my 22. The anchor light is 4 to 6 inches or so above the radar dome. Boat is miles away in barn until spring but you could find pics in my album. You should just make it. No idea about your marina height requirements.

Are you including the OB in the "lowest fixed point on the boat", since, I believe, the OB's should be stored in the down position. I can measure but it will be later today and I do not have a "high top".

The outboard can be stored however the owner sees fit. Why do you believe it should be stored down? I know the water flows out when it's down, but normally we clean the boat and flush the engine before it goes in for storage which gives the engine time to drain. Any other reason?

Thanks for measuring, I really appreciate you help and all the help from the other C-Brats.
 
I have Twin Yamaha 40's, and the mechanic just told me that for winter storage, they should be down, so that's why I say that. His reasoning has to do with the oil resevoiur, and oil drainage not the water drainage. Sorry, I'm not a mechanic, so I take their word, the warranty is still in effect.

I seriously doubt you will be under the 8 foot line. I have a radar on a short pedestal on a standard roof. That measures almost 5 feet up from the deck line, at the mid-ship cleat, and on the trailer (pacific single axil on 15" tires) it was 5 feet from the deck at the same spot to the ground. Just to keep it interesting, I pulled it over and we backed it into the neighbor's garage, (a 10 foot door) with about 4 inches to spare.

Your keel to top of radar dome with a short arch or with a short pedestal will be under eight feet as stated above. No comment on what distance is from skeg to radar dome or what needs to be measured for dry storage etc. But you will go under an eight foot bridge on the water by the inches your boat draws plus 2 to 4 inches depending on height of your arch or pedestal.

your engine down insures that the lube in the lower unit covers the bearing, gears and seals. In addition the unit up can collect water/condensation and freeze/crack.
 
Although when I keep a boat on the trailer, I store with the outboard leg down, when the boat is stored in the water, I leave the outboard in full up position. The oil should cover all of the gears and shaft. The overflow for filling lower unit oil is a number of inches above the gear case, and the gears would be covered. Leaving the engine down--especially in salt water will lead to corrosion.
