Heard my first pan pan today

Today Penny and I took C-weetness out for the afternoon. We were motoring toward Sucia when we heard a pan pan. A boat was anchored in Fossil bay and had a medical emergency. The Coast Guard responded almost immediately. Very impressive. I hope all turned out well. When we pulled into Fossil bay it was thick with boats both anchored and moored. We couldn't tell which boat was involved and of course left it to the professionals to sort things out.

Hearing the Coast Guard response makes us feel just a bit more secure.

We had our first DSC radio alert in the San Juans and it was one loud series of beeps and messages on the chartplotter as well trying to locate the call. Whoever it was did not manually place a call that we could hear and they didn't have GPS encoded in the message so I could not tell where they were. Got our attention for sure but we soon realized that we were surely not the only boat to get the alert and I am sure the coast guard followed up.
It is very nice to know they are out there listening. I was on the receiving end for a decade and now I am more grateful that someone else is there if I need a hand.
