My cruising plans MAY get altered drastically by some family obligations. I could end up with only a couple of weeks instead of the couple of months originally envisioned.

I will be in Minneapolis Sept 1 anyway to drop my daughter off at college so I thought I could continue north and hit Lake of the Woods for a a week or two.

I had originally planned on the North Channel and that is still a possibility. I had kind of hoped for both.

Lake of the Woods looks North Channelly in places but in a more tame, less dramatic way. I can't imagine weather being as big an issue because there are 13,000 island to hide behind and over a hundred lodges to sneak into. It certainly looks pretty up there and the biggest drawback, the mosquitoes, should be fading by early September.

The North Channel seems like a more "serious" cruising destination. I would likely run into people there who were doing one part of a more extensive cruise compared to the Lake in the Woods crowd who are really up there to fish or do the family thing.

I know that I would not want to be on LOW in mid summer due to the (relative) crowds but September might give a different feel.

Oddly enough, my local lake here in North Carolina reminds me of Minnesota lakes (that's a good thing :)) without, of course, the size or variety. So North Channel would be a bit more change of pace.

I sure appreciate any advice from those who can compare the two venues.

Thanks!

Tom
