Don, I think that's the new C-Dory Trimaran 35 that Jeff M has been building in the back of the factory. Didn't know it was in the water yet though!

Since BC had mentioned that he was heading for Bell Harbor, I figured at first that it must be a remodel that he had performed on his C-Dory, but I asked around the marina as to the whereabouts of BC and no one had heard of him, so I guess it's not his vessel....

BTW....the vessel pictured is named "Earthrace" and apparently is suppose to be some fuel efficient creation..........probably one of them new fangled electric boats with an extension cord trailing behind it! (Maybe it's DOD in disguise).

Actually, according to what I could find on "google" about this vessel is....that it is owned by a New Zealander that is planning on setting a world record in circumnavigating the globe. It is a 78 foot vessel that runs on "fuel from animal fat or soybeans".

Thanks Dave.... I wonder if I could prop this big ol gut up against the fuel cells/tanks....and loose a few pounds? What a concept....burn fat and enjoy cruising on a boat at the same time. Then my wife would not have to put up the sign on my pool deck.... "No Harpooning The Beached Whale...unless you are married to him..."

A little more info on the Earthrace trimaran.

Earthrace trimaran
Launched 22 February 2006, this radical 24m wavepiercer trimaran by Craig Loomes Design Group (CLDG) is aiming to break the current Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) powerboat record for an equatorial circumnavigation via the Panama and Suez canals and a crew of four will try to beat the 75 day record set by Cable & Wireless in 1998. Construction is "advanced composites including carbon fibre and aramid reinforcements, toughened epoxy resins and lightweight foam cores". The boat will be powered by biodiesel, showcasing the environmental benefits of this emerging fuel technology. Germanischer Lloyd, in conjunction with CLDG, have analysed the sea induced loadings: the animation below shows the vessel operating at 28 knots in a short steep head sea of 2.8m height and 23m wavelength. The colours indicate the wave peaks and troughs.

According to their website, the engines are Cummins Mercruiser diesels rated at 540 hp at 2600 rpm and cruise at 400hp at 1700 rpm.

Just a little larger than a Honda 90!

Must have a pretty interesting air intake system to filter out the salt sea spray and water!

Wonder how often it has to be refueled? Mother ship(s)?

The distinction between underwater and surface piercing drives becomes kind of meaningless.

A collision with a whale or half sunken cargo container might just turn it into a submarine (one way type).

So is it a Dodge with that Cummins power?

Joe.

It's prettier, I'll say that about it Joe. Unlike the Dodge, it runs on recycled oil from the Colonel's Homes for Battered Chicken, so I suspect it smells a whole lot better than an old naturally aspirated Dodge diesel.

BTDT with wave piercing boats, only they went on to pierce the depths too. It takes negative bouyancy to keep them down, though enough power can do it with that green thing, but I suspect only briefly, unless they goose a whale in the process. If they did, by the way, would they report it do ya think? Better check with DOD.

The air intake systems are in the top of the wings, so theoretically they stay above the waves.

To set a new record for circumnavigating the earth, they are not allowed to refuel from another ship. It has to be done in a port. I believe the current record is 75 days and they anticipate doing it in 65 days.

If you want more info on the boat they have a web site here.
