go fly a kite

a relative sent this to us and I thought I would share it with the Brats. The blurb that accompanied it says,

"The guy flying the 3 kites is in his 80s, and he's from Canada. He
comes to the Washington State International Kite Festival every year.
His skin is like leather as he normally flies with his shirt off. He
is deaf, so when he flies we hold our hands up and wave them for
applause. He flies 2 with his hands and the 3rd one is attached to his
waist. Enjoy!"

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this find. Very skillful flying. Sad that those folks walking by seem to be oblivious to this gentleman's kite ballet.

I recently read about a "social experiment" in a subway station. A man was sitting playing a violin. Very few people payed him any mind. In fact the man was one of the top violinist in the world. The piece he was playing was one of the most intricate and difficult to play compositions. The violin he was playing was worth several million dollars. The night before he had played the same pieces to a sold out crowd for over a hundred dollars a seat....And yet in the subway the next day he was invisible!

Maybe the kite festival should have charged more to get in!! :)

Marty, thanks for the PM - I tried to figure out how to copy the link but,,,,,,, anyway if you google "Famous violinist Joshua Bell plays at metro station" you can read more about it.

most north part of cal. is 42.1 north
most southern part of Canada i can find is 41.9 north. So just barely. I mean its just the tip of a little island in the great lakes.

So true. You can win a lot of beer knowing that. Also, quick, without looking at a map: Which state is closest to Africa? Which state is furthest North? Which furthest South? Which furthest East? Which furthest West? I'm telling ya, you can drink for free! :D

But back to Marty's link. What a great video. Makes another old guy want to dance or sing or something. (No witnesses allowed.)

My wallets empty. But I'm not worried. Maine is closest to Africa (This one is a sure winner 99% of the time. No one, but no one gets it right.) And Alaska is farthest east - the Aleutians cross the 180th.

But you don't have to worry either - I don't drink (much)

I was on that island a few years ago - beautifull place. Has its own microclimate - just a short boatride from the mainland and the temperature difference was hard to believe. Lots of wine made there.

Hey Tom if the water levels keep dropping in the great lakes - that little island might grow those 2 minutes!!

Actually, the following is true for the United States.....

Alaska is the furthest North, East and West..... and Mark's home state of Hawaii is the furthest South.

Now.......

When it comes to the "lower 48"...ie: contiguous United States, the following is true....

Minnesota is the furthest North, Maine is the furthest East, Washington is the furthest West and Florida is the furthest South.
