First, I have never owned a boat that wouldn't spew gas out the vent or fill port if I filled the tank to fast or to full. As originally stated, gas spews when towed or with wave action.
I do have the P trap vents.

Yes, most certainly, my tank's vents are on the outboard sides. As the boat rocks with the waves or is thrown from side to side on the trailer, gas is pushed outboard, through the vent hoses, and over the side. The vent hose runs from tank, straight up, about 6" to the vent fitting. There's nothing to baffle the ram effect of the gas pounding side to side in the tank.
Again, I don't typically run distances long enough to worry about squeezing the last drop of fuel from the tanks, and will just not fill the tanks as full.
It is interesting that some people have never seen this problem, and others have the same problem as I. I thought these boats were pretty much the same design.
