Garmin 546s

C-Gypsy used to have a Garmin 540s GPS. One night a few months a low-life thumb-sucker decided he needed it more than I did. So now I am looking for a replacement unit.

I spied the Garmin 546s yesterday and am wondering what the differences are. Will the transducer I used with the 540 work with the 546?

I am also planning to add a new radio in the next couple months. Should I look for something that will interface with the 546, or is the 546 truly just a standalone GPS?

Are there other electronics the 546 will interface with?

Thanks!

The 546s has a higher res screen, high sensitivity GPS reciever, NMEA 2000 output, double the waypoints, 5 times the route storage, double the track log storage but is otherwise the same basic unit as your old one so it should work with your transducer and also function in a very familiar way.

The NMEA 0183 and 2000 output should also be able to interface with a new radio with no problem and other electronics could take a feed as well. Not sure if there would be any input possibilities aside from the transducer.
