Garibaldi Report

Wandering Sagebrush

I stopped by the Garibaldi docks today before coming back to the valley, and ran into one of my Rockaway neighbors. He brought in 3 nice silvers, and released 5 wild fish. The ODFW agent said that he was checking in about 1 fish per boat.

I heard of one boat going for tuna. They were reported to have found fish at 60 miles, and brought 20 home. I think I will wait until the long fins are a little close in.

Regardless, it sounds like it is finally worth dragging the boat over and chasing the silvers.

I tried it this weekend out of newport. No sign of silvers. No bait either. Ended up going out to the rockpile and caught and released three small halibut. Kept hoping for that larger one but it never came along. Sunday went straight out and stopped about 35 fathoms and threw a herring over for the heck of it and caught another small halibut. Sunday afternoon sue came over so I took her out and she caught one about 30 pounds, decided it was time to take some meat home.

Last Tuesday south of CR buoy out of Ilwaco we took 6 Coho for three poles releasing three and several lost next to the boat but it took ten hours and was pretty slow. Our partner boat got no keepers for three poles. On Sunday we got two fish for three poles in five hours. Again, pretty slow fishing.
