Fuel tanks unlevel

My 1999 22-C has the original 18 gal each tanks. They are mounted such that the fuel fill, vent, and fuel pick-up connections are outboard. This places the fuel pick-up on the port tank aft, but at a higher level than the inboard side of the tank due to the deck sloping slightly inboard. The stb tank pick-up is especially bad in that the pick-up is at the highest corner of the tank: outboard and forward. When under way, I feel I can get most of the fuel from the port tank, but there would be several gal remaining in the stb tank. I do not want to replace the tanks at this time, but do want all the cruising range I can get. I am considering building a deck plate that would be placed between the deck and each fuel tank so as to raise the inboard end of the tank 2" to 4". I realize that with the tank vents outboard, I would want to have the tanks as level as possible so as not to have a large air space higher than the vents, thus loosing fuel capicity for that reason. Has anyone else considered doing something like this?
