I need some advice. I am looking for a gas tank for under the bench seat of my 16ft open sled. I only need 10 to 12 gallons but it has to be no more then 12x12x? and I can't find one of the right size pre-made.

So does anyone know where I can order one or a person that could build me one.?
 
I had two tanks made by these guys, 5 or 6 years ago, in aluminum. They are not the least expensive choice, but they are experienced working in thin aluminum, and the quality is excellent. Bellingham, WA

That might be tricky depending on the room you have to get that many gallons. A cubic foot of liquid gas is roughly 7.5 gallons. So, 12x12x12 would not give anywhere near 10-12 gallons. You'd have to go 12 L x 12 W x 16 H inch tall tank to give you close to 10 gallons. To get 12 gallons it would have to be around 19" tall. Do you have enough heighth under the seat to do this? You might, but I agree it would probably have to custom made as that is an unusual size.
 
It needs to be 12 wide 10 to 12 tall and up to 36 long. I have plenty of room under the seat for 20 gallons but I only need 10 to 12 gallons. I don't want to much weight on board.

I did a little math and it needs to be 12 x 12 x 20 inchs for 12 gallons. or 12x10x24 for the same 12 gallons. that's H x w x L

Yep we pretty much have the same figures so it must be right!....If you can't find it, somebody will make it for you. I have made a fuel tank before - it isn't that hard if you have a saw and can weld. If you can find a premade one it would be better for sure. Good luck in your search!
 
You might consider a "bag," or fuel cells. I've seen three brands. They are mostly larger sizes, but I've seen some smaller ones. If you got a larger size you would not need to fill it full. Easy to see fuel remaining, as they collapse as the liquid is drawn out. Therefore venting is not necessary. They come with grommet holes or loops on the corners to be fastened in a compartment to keep them from moving around. You might then need to create your own box to hold them. The come with one large "inlet" and a smaller "outlet." The come in different shapes and sizes and inlet & outlet sizes vary and the placement of the inlet/outlet varies. They are more expensive than a plastic tank made in a large production run, but quite a bit less than a one off custom tank. Check West Marine, Defender, Fisheries Supply & other on-line stores.
 
I have the box already. It's the bench seat in my valco sled. I would weld one but I don't weld and it would cost me far more to get a welder then it would to just buy one. The other problem is that I'm a cheap bastard. I have about $100 to $200 set a side fir this. I would buy one that is ready made but I have not been able to find one. I need it soon to get out duck hunting.

Thanks Roger, I also saw that one late last night while searching. I just ordered it from west marine for 160 plus tax. They wanted 199 but they matched LSF in bellingham and I don't have to drive north. I could get it cheaper on line but the shipping would be the same as the tax. should be here in a week.
