For Immediate Release September 10, 2008

Refinery Mistake Leads to Contaminated Fuel Incident at Two Harbors

Two Harbors, located at the Isthmus of Catalina Island, has just learned that unleaded fuel with excessive levels (approximately 40%) of ethanol was sold to its customers during the period from August 30 - 8:00am to September 3rd 10am. The excessive level of ethanol was the result of its refinery delivering a load of what was supposed to be unleaded fuel but was in fact 100% ethanol. When this was mixed with the existing unleaded fuel in the Two Harbors storage tanks it created a fuel mixture with approximately 40% ethanol.

Ann Luchau, Two Harbors Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, is advising anyone who purchased fuel at Two Harbors during these dates to contact Two Harbors Enterprises to assist in having the fuel in their tanks switched out. Luchau added, "Upon learning of this mistaken deliver, Two Harbors immediately ceased sales and had flushed its tanks to make sure our supply is no longer contaminated. The fuel mixture does not pose a health or safety risk to people, but could effect the performance of boats or vehicles and/or potentially damage vehicle or boat engines. We can assist you in verifying your purchase and inform you of the steps that can be taken to have the fuel removed from your tanks and replaced without charge".

Two Harbors regrets this incident and plans to work closely with its customers to remedy the situation. Those concerned are urged to call Two Harbors representatives Laura Mc Elroy at 310-510-4219 or Ann Luchau at 310-510-4204.

Let that be a lesson to buying gas at a marina for $5.50/gal, as opposed to bringing your own. Another advantage of a C-Dory, where you can get fuel at a service station for $2 less per gal. When we were there a couple of weeks age, few people were buying fuel.

This warning probably should apply to other marinas in the So Cal area. I'm sure that the Isthmus isn't the only one to get that batch. At least they're honest and let people know.
