football

“Sports is the gateway into the university for many, many people,” Phyllis M. Wise, UW's interim president, said in an interview. “It is the front porch. It’s what people know.”

Marty, That's right, and to show our priorities are in the right place, compare the Athletic Directors salary with the university President's.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. There are pluses and minuses to most everything, depending on perspective I'm sure. And much of it evolves around the $$,$$$,$$$ and more. So the game, is really only a means to an end. In academia it pays the way, in Pro sports it paves the way.

Well on the college level, football is the big cheese. But, the revenue football provides also provides sporting opportunities for swimming, gymnastics, women's b-ball, golf, chess...you get the point. The funding allows those students w/ scholarships to to those less popular sports the opportunity to receive a top-notch education they may not otherwise be able to afford. So there is SOME good that comes from college football.

As far as the pros, at least the NFL has seen the writing on the wall and has some form of salary caps, non-guaranteed contracts etc. The NBA and MLB don't have such controls, and they are now paying the price. I won't go to a MLB or NBA game. I've been to perhaps a handful of Seahawks games in 10 yrs, some were free tickets; too much money for me and then again...crowds. I told M once I have to pay to watch the NFL on TV, I'm done. Right now it's a free distraction.

I must admit that my two fantasies in life (besides marrying Jennifer Aniston  ) are that I'd be a star wide receiver on an NFL team or a rock/blues star (think Stevie Ray Vaughn w/out the helicoptor ride).

...ON TO CHICAGO!!!!!

I could feel neutral towards Seattle pro sports of any type were it not for the fact that every home game starts generating unacceptable traffic about 10:00 AM friday morning and doesn't clear till sunday night. And when things work out to where two or more teams play the same day in seattle (thinking back to when there were three teams) you might as well swim across lake washington, it would be faster.

Wow. I hope this guy eats his words come Sunday.

Meet the Enemy: Seattle's Weak Warriors

Pffffft. Tee-hee. Mmmmph. We're about to play... the... huh-huh... Seaha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-hawks in the playoffs! Hilarious.

The football gods are smiling on us this day, Bears fans. The skies parted and delivered us a team of NFL rejects, ripe for slaughter.

Look at these clowns.

In the backfield, you've got Marshawn Lynch, a player so overrated, the Bills didn't even want him. Backing him up, there's Justin Forsett, a guy Seattle already let go once. Then he rusted in the running back graveyard that is Indianapolis for a few years. Now he's back.

Their kicker is Olindo Mare. You may remember Olindo Mare from such historical events as the creation of fire and the extinction of the dinosaurs.

At wide receiver, let's hear it for Brandon Stokley, a fragile, elderly man most people thought had already retired.

Then there's Mike Williams. He's a receiver whose ego was so enormous, he and Maurice Clarett tried to jump from college to the NFL earlier than everyone else. A judge slapped him down, so he spent a year eating Cheetos and watching "Match Game" reruns on the Game Show Network. Then the Lions drafted him tenth overall. He continued eating Cheetos (and truckloads of marshmallow Peeps) until he weighed roughly 479 pounds. The Lions cut him. The Lions cut him. Then he spent two years out of the league. And now he's starting in Seattle.

Pathetic.

Leading this freak show of has-beens and never-was-es is Pete Carroll, a man with the moral compass of a flatulent rhinoceros. When he comes to Chicago, clutch your valuables tightly. He will take anything not bolted down. He will sell your children into slavery. He will spend your retirement money on crack, then feed it to puppies. He is evil incarnate. And he must be stopped.

This is a losing team. If the Bears can't destroy them by 20 points, we should close Soldier Field and never speak of football again.

Funny how he used the word "we're", as if he's strapping on the pads. I hope the Hawks shove it down "their" throats.

So hunting is a "sport" too? :?

I think I understand- a game pits two (or more) opponents against each other in a match of brains or brawn (or both).

A sport pits one opponent against another opponent, but the second opponent doesn't know he's in the game.

As far as the Boat Show:

If the Seahawks win agains da Bears

AND

If Green Bay beats the Falcons

Then the NFC Championship Game will be held at Quest Field on January 23rd.

If that happens, the boat show will have to close that Sunday. AND the exhibibits in the North Hall may need to be adjusted to make room for the spectators of the game.

At least our booth isn't in that area!

If the Seahawks lose Sunday, then it's over for them. If they win and Green Bay loses, then the Seahawks will travel to Atlanta.

You're correct, Matt. A couple of dominos must fall for this scenario, but...we can HOPE!

One more: is MMA (mixed martial arts) a "sport"? :?

batting 100% in my picks this week, i feel compelled to offer the following predictions for the very near future. Pittsburg, then Green Bay, then Pittsburg again. :cry

And this is coming from someone who doesn't know which way they point that thing when they throw it down the field.

Well, it appears Capt Matt and I both backed losers this weekend. Oh, well; it was fun. But the Seahawks returned to their inconsitent ways; the running game was non-existent, the pass rush MIA and the receivers had a case of stone hands. It was good to see pretty-boy Brady frustrated, even though the Jets are not my favorites. Aaron Rodgers is a stud! Cutler needs a good, solid stick to make him reconsider running.

I find solace in the fact that my Steelers are still in it and HOSTING the AFC Championship @ Heinz Field. Bring on them trash talking Jets now. :thdown I'm hoping it's Green Bay vs Pittsburgh. Then I'll be happy no matter who wins.

Well, even though the Seahawks are not in the NFC Championship - there is a Seattle connection - Ted Thompson Packers GM came from the Seahawks and is the genius behind the Packers success (picked Aaron Rodgers with 24th pick).

Probably a big part of why the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl a few years back.

Genius?? Anyone who would let the great and mighty Brett Favre go can scarcely be called a genius. (Alrighty, that oughta liven things up.)

I'm guessing if you have read any of my Tweets, you know my deep love and admiration for who I just like to call my BFF Brett.

I used to have the utmost respect for Favre...until he became the narcisist he is now. And then there was this little allegation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyKP2PQjmiE

After that game @ Minnesota Univ he looked like a beaten man who's body could no longer take the punishment. I think he's done. I'm probably thinking he wished he passed on the 2010 season, but hindsight is always 20/20.

I could barely watch the Pats game after the first quarter. They did not try hard enough - taking a knee before the end of the half with seconds on the clock was embarrassing. As was their horrible time management in the 4th quarter. The Jet's obviously covered the receivers good - the number 1 offense in the league should have been able to adjust their routes.

I can't stand Rex Ryan - but the Jets deserved to win. They played with more heart. Our season is done.

oh well, the boat show is saved, I think the seahawks had a pretty good year though even though the seismic chart was flatline in Chicago.

I guess I'll have to be a Green Bay fan now,, don't much care for the Stealers or the Jerks

da Pats was flat for sure.

NEXT YEAR, C-Brat super bowl civil war....seahwks vs pats...whadda ya say
