Flashing "B" on digital Honda tach

At the bottom of my tach for my Honda 90 where the hours are displayed (digitally), there's a flashing 'B' that isn't explained in the owners manual. RPMs on the tach are shown with a needle but it has a digital readout for engine hours. It's just to the left of the hours where I get a continuous flashing 'B' (or 8?) when the engine is running. Honda tech support hasn't been able to figure it out.

Anyone?

Are you sure it is a B? Could it perhaps be an hourglass symbol indicating the hour meter is active?

That is just a guess, I am not at the boat to check my own but I have seen the hourglass symbol on lots of different hour meters.

Mike, I would say you are correct.

I just went out with a magnifying lens and a flashlight and turned on the key and it looks like an hour glass.

The symbol is an hourglass. It just means that the meter is on and counting.

The next question is how come the meter doesn't read accurately. First try rapping on it, second, replace it.

The meter is made by Faria and I replaced it with a Faria 32840. Works well. I'll let you know how it works in the long run. ~$90 on the internet.

More than you wanted to know?
