Fishing Puget Sound

Fished Saturday, got skunked :disgust . Fish checker in Everett said at the time we checked in they checked 30 boats with only 4 fish.

Fished Sunday, got skunked :thdown . Fish checkers had checked in about 60 boats with 30 fish. One was a Blackmouth she said only made size when standing on its head.

Looks like time to start getting the boat ready for next year. Installing an Easy Steer and a Troll Master Pro :D . Also putting up a Carport to keep the boat and my full cover in great shape. Going to contact the factory to replace the fuel tank covers and fix the port wiper that won't turn off. Looking forward to next year and hope to top the 48 fish we got this year. Ya, Alisa beat me in size and quantity  . We sure had fun and love our boat.

Well good to hear you got out both days Wayne, that's die-hard. I think we can say that overall it hasn't been a great season.

I'm heading out on Saturday, gonna fish down south near Shilshole again. Seems the few that are around, are down south for whatever reason.

Would love to go razor clamming this weekend, but I have a bunch of friends in from out of town that I am going to take fishing instead. I'll let you know if we catch anything.

Thought I would post a fishing report, its been some time since my fishing line has been wet. Went out fishing Sunday 2/12 west of possesion point. Couldn't have asked for a nicer day, the sun was out and the water was flat. Launched in Everett about 7 am and dropped our lines around 8 am. We had four fish on, lost the first one, second one was 21" (released), third was about nine pounds, and the last measured 25". We finished around 11:30 am. Sure was nice to get the boat back out on the water, can't wait to get out again.

Jim,

Great report - a little more details please - what side of the bar? What depth, what lures - inquiring minds want to know!

(who by the way was skunked on his trip to Possession a week earlier)

Hi Roger,
We were fishing the west side of Useless Bay trolling between 85' and 120' of water. Ocassioninally, we were bouncing the bottom with the downriggers.(the biggest fish hit when this occurred) One pole was set up with a green hot spot with a e-chip and a chrome coyote with half of one side colored green (this pole had three fish on). The other pole I used a dodger with a whole herring (green label) on a clip with about a 7' leader (this pole caught the bigger fish). The high tide that day was a 11.5' at 5:45 am with a low of 6.5' at 11:15 am. Fishing the tide on the inside of the bay did not effect the direction of fishing much, but when we got out to the outside of the point were the buoy was located, it really pushed us. We did not see much bait, but did not seem to matter. Looking at the weekend marine weather I may try to get out this Sunday and see if the fish are still there.
Good Luck,
Jim

Jim and Roger,

I was out on 2/12 as well and fished the west side of Possesion Bar near the green can, Skachet Head. Picked up on 6-7 pound black mouth right at tide change and lost one other reasonable hook up. Only stayed out for the tide change and went home. I've been having better luck up north off of Camano head, usually one fish per trip. Nothing large yet.

Cruised past another 22 foot C-dory on my way home.

Mason,
Good to hear from you,
Went out this morning 2/19 and fished Useless bay again. The temperature in Everett was 23 degrees, boy that Wallas heater sure pays for itself! Dropped our lines about 8am using hot flashers and coyote spoons. boated two fish by 9:45. One about 25" and the other was 27". Even with the cold all the mountain ranges were quite clear and the water was pretty flat. It was a good Day.
Jim

I'm launching at Edmonds in the AM on Mon. Will run up to Useless bay and or Pt. No Pt. I'll be monitoring 68 and 16 if anyone out there wants to give me a holler.

Roger on the SeaDNA

Well - today for me, Useless Bay lived up to it's name - no fish, no take downs, skunked again :cry. I can't wait until it warms up a bit and I can get out to Neah Bay for some real fishing.

I know what you mean Roger! I'm hoping to spend a bunch of time out that way this summer as I can. After all, that was my main reason for getting my boat!

Fished sunday 2/26 with Tom on his boat, the Susan E. We had a club derby and since I'm still awaiting delivery of my new 22. Tom was gracious enough to take me out. We fished 8-2 just up from the racetrack, got one slighly undersized and then another one at 23 inches. Fought like it was bigger though. Then the bite shut off for the rest of the day. We had fun though and covered alot of ground. The fish we took was caught at around 100 feet on a green and white coho killer  One of my favorite spoons. The weather was decent most of the day. And I was happy just to be fishing again. Thanks Tom :thup :thup

I can not wait for summer fishing either!

We are going out to fish the opening of the Tulalip Bubble Friday through Sunday, anyone else going to be there? From what I read a few months ago this could be the best run in 10 years. I know we heard that before but maybe they will be right this time :D .

Wayne and Alisa

That sounds like fun! I fished the Bubble for the first time last year. Nada... Sigh...

I'll be up at Deception Pass on the 9th,10th, and 11th fishing for Lings. The Gamefishin site is having a get together there. Should be a good time. I'll enjoy being out on the water again. I'll probably be in my friends 18' Trophy.

Gary,

If you see a 19 Klamath with a white-haired old goat driving and a shrimp pot puller waving in the breeze - wave. Been out shrimping the early hours... ling next.

Dusty

Peter,

My wife asks me that about 3 or 4 times a week

Hopefully by the end of the month we will have a new engine installed and be ready to take a shake down cruise. Of course my taking off for a weekend of fishing sure doesn't help things!

The engine is ready to pull. I just need a clear day to do the work when my son is available. Then we'll rip the heads off and see how bad the damage is. I'll either rebuild the old block or get a short/long block from Chevy (or NAPA). All depends on how bad it looks. Plus I'll have a lot of wiring that needs to be done before putting the motor back in. Figuring out what to do with all the old fuel, mounting brackets for a full swimstep. Etc. Lots of work yet to do. This is not a project that will be done very fast as I'm doing it on the cheap. IE: We're having my son do most of the work and I'm helping as I can (Hard to do working 50-60 hour weeks!).

Got an extra seat Dusty? I would love to get some shrimp while I'm up there! I'll try to swing by on Friday afternoon at least to say hello.

If you see a big crowd down by the launch having a potluck come on by. I'll be the fat one with the C-Dory hat.

Sounds great Gary! I know you've been anxious to get on the water for awhile now. I know the feeling, there just aren't enough hours in the day. Keep us posted.

Peter

Crabbing season opened here in the Puget Sound on July 1. what a zoo at the local boat launches.we had about a 30 minute wait to launch our boat at 06:00 on Sat. morning.and at least that long to take the boat out 20 minutes later.there were so many rigs trying to get on and off the water.
I am totaly amazed at the abilities of some people when it comes to backing a trailer......lol......some of the best comedy can be had at your local boat launch....lol....

It was a successful weekend of crabbing for us. we ended the weekend with 51 dungees in the cookpot. we have enough for our July 4th party. it takes about 45 crab to feed everyone who attends
.
