Sounds like the crew just had time to issue a Mayday before going down.

Again, we are so fortunate to have the Coast Guard ready and able to put their lives on the line to save the lives of others.

From yesterdays news, apparently the EPIRB was not functional so thecaptain went back into the wheelhouse to make the Mayday call. He did get the call out, but suffered a severe head injury when exiting, and lost consciouseness, therefore unable to participate in his own survival. Sad for his loss, but 3 were saved because of his sacrafice.

Lessons: 1. Make sure ALL of your safety gear is operational.
2. Survival suits work, when they are on. It took 2 hours for the Coast Guard to make the pickup. Crew was cold but alive. :thup
