Fish Finder Installation?

Dear all,
I wonder if I could get some guidance on the installation of my Humminbird 141c fish finder that I recently purchased in my 2005 22' C-Dory Cruiser. The hardware has optional types of mounting. I was thinking of mounting the transducer in the bottom of the boat under the floor boards in the outside deck area. The installation instructions for my fish finder says that this will produce good results in single thickness fiberglass-hulled boats. Will this work? My other option is to transom mount the transducer. Can anyone gives me some guidance?
Thanks for your help.

I'm guessing your looking at a threw the hull transducer. The trouble is that our boats have a balsa core that is not a single layer of glass. I suppose you could chop a hole in the top layer and carve out the balsa then have the transducer recessed a bit. Sounds like a lot of fooling around for a fish finder.........:crook

Think I'd transom mount it.

Good Luck..and oh what nice problem to have :D

Hi jo and Dave...welcome to the group....like Chris said....it won't work going through the balsa core...and the only pure fiberglass spot it in the very back where the bilge pump goes...and that won't work at that is where all the turbulence is from the keel....what little keel we have...I know I tried that spot... terrible.... so transom mount is your best option.... I think probably the left side of the motor is probably the best spot to avoid the prop cavation....but also stay away from your trim tabs.... if you don't have those yet...you will... they help bunches...I am now mounting a transducer on my transom...I had a thru hull and hated it... lots of turbulence... (can't see anything at speed) I think Jim had something about mounting the transducer on a piece of seaboard before attaching the seaboard to the boat... I like that idea...it's somewhere in the archives.

Good Luck Pal

OK, I am sold.... the picture that Thataway posted did me.... I sure don't want to drill anything that may cause rot.... I will drill an oversize hole...pack it with West Systems epoxy/with cabocil ( pyrogenic silica) and then seat the mounting screws...for the Seaboard block to mount the transducer.....do it once...do it right ! Oh Yes...Not to forget that wonderful 5200
