Hi,
Why not just fix what you have. Certainly Yamaha sells replacement rings etc. A 200 hp jet? Better buy stock in Exxon.

Greg – thank you for becoming involved in this group again – welcome back.

I wish I could help you with your decision about the E-Tech. I have a Honda on my 18’-16 C-Dory and am very happy with it. On our new boat the Marinaut 215 we put the 90 E-Tech on it and have just run some preliminary test with it. I am impressed with what little testing we have done with it. The only thing I have noticed that I would call a negative is there is a vibration at about 1200 rpm. If I increase the rpm’s above 1700 then bring it back down to 1200 rpm, most of the time it gets rid of the vibration.

The E-Tech seems to be a good strong performing engine. I believe it is quieter than my Honda. The biggest plus for me is the lighter weight and time between service intervals, but I would not hesitate using one of the other major outboard manufacturers.

cheers peeps :) im glad the site never stopped, its about the only fellowship i actually get living in wrangell :0\ but that is my own doing, i tend to be a hermit in real life, plus i been bizy inventin again when i got my container shop fired up.

if we get to the show, i at least have a CD with pix to show my biggest and best product-to-be ... its been getting less and less experimental and more real! maybe we show up in it. :D

the bigest problem is of course money right now, all post are actualy still helping me decide - i could change my mind again :xtongue for the next few years it might just come down to a rebuild - so if anyone knows of a trust worthy rebuilder, do share! i need to decide on that before i tear into it myself. It's debt i fear the most in this! have not known debt since i was a teen and it never happened again in my life, so there we are - tmi again - lol

OK, the slow-speed maneuvering change is ok, it;s the noise that i don't want, need to check into this more, i was hoping it might not make huge noise that outboard jets do? i do like the sound of 2 stroke outboards and i also miss that good old "2-stroke-cologhn" :P on a boat you only get a whiff now and then, on snowmachines however- the smell saturated everything.

the 200 Merc uses less fuel than a much smaller 4 stroke outboard equiped with a jet, this tells me i might get as good as 5 mpg again? but i don't like the big cost of 2-stroke oil either, it all depends on oil consumption - i am thinkin :? pushing a c-dory clasic, the engine is going to be using a minimum - its like the faster you go the more the oil-ratio increases right? i think that's how it works, but im rusty on what is up in engines these days - have not needed one in the last decade :)

i did consider maybe the cams slipped, but the thing will fog an entire bay when you check the blow-by tube - it also puffs, telling me that at least one cylinder is damaged - i was running 40 wt jimmy oil just to get one more trip in this August! LOL on a 2-hunerd mile trip i went through 4 gallons of oil!

Dave, is the etech quieter than the Honda cuz it's new and the Honda a little tired?

our dealer here tells me if i went Merc 2-stroke outboard, id be louder than a 4 stroke.... any 4 stroke :( so i take it etechs are a stand-out in comparison with the other modern 2 -stokes? im really bummed to hear such etech bashing up here, some really surprising stories that i don't believe - i mean how come they still crank them out if its all true?

The big 125 3-holer Merc 2-stroke has got my attention to!, along with that new 4-holer Tohatsu! but i really still want to do the sport jet 200 :P

thanks again for the post fellas - im out - ttfn - yep still crazy mon :D

Greg,
I believe the extra noise from a jet pump comes from where the exhaust is expelled from the motor. With a prop, it is deep under the water in the center of the prop. With a jet, it is in the jet of water at the surface.

ok - decision made

going to downsize - i think the future of gas prices demands this

also going to hack some lard off my :monty both boat and mine

going with the new Yamaha 70! and also taking off my 8hp hi-thrust yamaha, replacing it with my little jewel 3.5 Tohatsu i bought off a friend over in Klawok - its new and the prettiest kicker i ever seen, also, it can double as my cruiser/explorer AIRE canoe i just build a ss kicker mount for ...

this is one fun little basterd! i can zoom around on plane at 13 + mph with the milage at like 50 or 60 mpg i think!

so anyway that is the plonmon :P the future i see, we might be up there with Europe in fuel prices soon

also, hacking off 250 to 300 pounds is going to make me more navigable on the river! im excited :D

if there is interest, its pretty easy and cheap to ship my old engines to the states via our barge lines :idea you could hear how the main engine sounded in the video - if we have any rebuilder on the site?

i hope that don't get me busted! :x lol

also had my heart set on the new Honda 90 to

that last long trip to port beuclair (like 80 mi one way) tolld me i could get away from my speed adiction i got from the old 140 Johnson and the F-115 (like 30+ mph cruise!) i enjoyed so much the trip at them good old CD speeds of 20 or so, i now can get bok to it mon :P

most trips i make are only 20 miles

when we first got the RedFox we went all over creation (open sea coast) loaded up - - - with the old worn out 70 Johnson!

so return to the past i guess, its wonderful to have made such a good future decison with that old classic! you can put a big honkin motor on them or just a dinky one and still rip around like an idiot! :teeth

sorry - tmi again huh :x
