For those with ETEC motors, I thought I'd share a couple of enhancements you can make to your boat that you may not be aware of. Neither of these are critical but they do show some thoughtful engineering by Evinrude.
The first is to move you fuel/water separator under you engine cowling. Envinrude makes a kit (example) that installs easily and includes a sensor to alarm if water is detected in the fuel. It a nice way to clean up your fuel system.
The second is an Auxiliary Battery Charging kit. Being a high torque motor, ETECs tend to have massive charging output. This kit allows you to add a dedicated charging circuit to attach to your house batteries. Why would you want to do that? Because it allows you to completely separate the engine start battery from the house batteries. No need for an ACR or equivalent because the banks are separate. And using this with the Blue Sea On/Off/Combine switch still allows for emergency combining. See discussion here.
