Just read notice on Tugnuts(lucky loopers thread) that the Erie Canal will be celebrating their bicentennial this year(start of construction). They will not be charging any tolls or fees for recreational use. Opening May 19th conditions permitting.

Would love to do it some year.

Regards, Rob

Thanks Robert good to hear.

Not much more posting on this thread, so I'll hijack it to talk about cruising the Erie Canal. After some thought, I've pretty much decided to nix my Trent/Severn cruise this summer, and look at cruising the Erie Canal. I've just briefly looked at some past threads on this canal system, and have gathered that it's broken down into the western part and eastern part. Since I live in Wisconsin, I think the west part would be the best for me to start with. (That, and from one thread sounds like the western part is the best.) So, looking for any and all suggestions from others that have cruised on the Erie Canal, the best place to start from, ie, somewhere to launch and leave the rig for two weeks), and if it would be better to just boat one way, and if so suggestions for traveling from one end to the other to pick the rig back up.
