Electric wipers 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 shaft on 1995 22 cruiser?

I called C-Dory to see about getting electric wipers for my C-D 22. Sales suggested I buy from West Marine or other similar outfit.

The factory currently uses the AFI 1000 motors part #36181 (oem) which has a 1 1/2 inch shaft length set for 80 deg sweep.

The AFI 1000 kits I've seen only come with 2 1/2 inch shaft motors although the motors with 1 1/2 shafts can be purchased seperately.

Does anyone know if 1 1/2 shafts are appropriate for the 1995 CD.
Also which arm and wiper lengths work best.

I have the AFI 1000 wipers that came standard on the 23 cape cruiser I put on the wipers they try to move but what happens is the voltage on the battery goes from 14.2 down to 10.6 or so
Also how would you change the wiper assembly to somthing non boating like auto somthing ?

Are the motors jammed ?

Short in wires ?

bad switch ?

whats the best way to trouble shoot this problem ??

When you said the battery voltage, which of the following did you mean:

1. The voltage at the battery posts
2. The voltage at the motor.

If it's the first, I'd vote for a stuck/jammed or otherwise screwed up motor or bad battery. If it's the second, try running a 12 ga wire directly to the motor (with in line fuse,) and see if it works. If it does, you've got bad wiring between the battery and motor.

Actually with 10.5 volts, you should see some action, but do see if you have small wiring or a bad switch by bypassing all the in-between wire.

I just replaced the fuse and put soapy water on windshield then turned the switch and started moving wipers manuelly now they work ?

I guess from lack of use they froze up what can I do to make them work better they work very slow and somtimes one must help them along if they are getting the voltage is there a grease fitting or oil fitting for these wipers?

Boris no I havent yet I can read the voltage from the 498 gps or the yamaha gauges tells what voltage the eng is producing I guess??

I got the port wiper to work normally but the starboard still needs help moving it manually with switch on ?

Is there a spray or oil you can put into wiper to make it work or is it an elec problem?
