E-TEC for a CD 25?

What does the group think about a single 90 HP Evinrude saltwater edition for a CD 25? I am an ex 7 knot trawler person, so not interested in going fast. Cruising the San Juan Islands economically at 12-15 knots is my goal. Will this work? Thanks for the feedback.

I should have the 90 etec working on a 22 soon. Probably give a better answer then. I sure doin't see any reason it wouldn't be a good match as long as you are satisfied with trawler type speeds. The 25 has lots of lift aft, and loaded lightly, with trim tabs, you should probably get it to plane if it's important to you.

Dusty is the best one to answer that! :wink He's just about to commission a new E-TEC 90 on his new 22. First and only one I know about on our boats...

A 5 Hp will work, probably won't take you to 7 knots though. Sometimes it's good to go a little faster to get away from bad wx or to keep up with the other CDorys!!

If top end is of no importance... I feel sure the 90 would work, or make the boat move fine...just have to pick your prop set up for YOUR use/load/conditions. May even want to consider two differant prop pitches for "loaded" and "light load" conditions.. You can change a prop in less than 15 minutes...generally, if you have all the parts ready and in place.. Not sure how much top end speed would be gained by another 45 hp to get you to the hp range of 135 which most seem to be going for. More is not alway better...
I know Cutter in the NE has put many a single 50 on 22s that work fine. Will be interesting to follow this.
Any 90s on 25s out there now?

HMMMMM
I would think that a 90 E-Tec would be great . I have a 90 Ficht on my 22 and it works fine.
If you were to go with one 90, and it was tooo slow for you, you could always just slap another 90 on and go with twins later on down the road.
