anyone know of a good puget sound repair shop for downriggers? I broke the plastic casing on my electric Penn. the gunnel mount is fine, and the downrigger itself appears to be fine, but the plastic housing broke where it screws down to the mount.

I saw a guy on craigslist who advertised exactly that same type of repair but he's been non responsive.

I was just going to replace with a manual one for now until I can get the nice electric fixed. these penns are pretty good riggers.

Check with John's Sporting Goods in Everett. He's a Penn (and Cannon and Scotty) dealer. I know his shop does reel repair. I assume they do downrigger repairs also.

Ditto Roger. After 9 years, I decided to get my downriggers serviced by professionals instead of me. I brought my Scotty 1106's in for service a couple of months ago and they did a nice job and fast too! Can't wait to use them, maybe this weekend.

Yep, John's shop servicd one of our our scotty's last fall. They should be able to get you all fixed up.

perfect, thank you!!

Hey, did you notice that every reply mentioned Scottys? 8) Maybe the broken casing was an omen. Put those Penns on Craigslist and get some Scottys. :)

As for repair, give Sportco in Fife a call. It's a third of the distance from Enumclaw to Everett.

There's got to be an interesting story behind the broken case, too... Care to share?

I tried but my ego wouldn't let me.

Every reply mentioned a place to get scottys fixed because Cannons don't need repair.

So not forget anglers Choice in Lake forest park right off the highway. Services all brand of Downriggers and really knows what they are doing.

I'll say this. first thing my buddy unpacks from his bag when we get under way is a bunch of bananas. I look at him and ask what the hell he's doing. I've veto'd bananas on my boat countless times already. but it was early and I didn't feel like being rude.

after a couple mishaps I'm out in the cock pit reterminating a broken downrigger line he managed to somehow snap (last year he threw a downrigger ball in the puget sound without even attaching it to the DR line, lol) and as i'm sitting there rigging his setup... I see a full bunch of bananas float by me. in the water. I start laughing and I hear him say "so maybe you're onto something with these bananas."

I know this much for sure, I'm not cut out to be a guide. Its much easier to fish with people who know what they're doing already, ha.

John has a about a two week backlog right now.

Ya know, there's a difference between a buddy and a crew mate/fishing partner. I'd keep that dude on land as just a drinkin' buddy. 8)
