Wow, great video. Glad they all got bck out to sea.

Does anyone know where it was? The vegetation look like what we have in SoCal, but it could be in a lot of different places.

Boris, it was in Brazil. (I "googled" it.)

The important question is WHY! Why did they beach themselves? I'm thinking back to the RV show flipper. I thought they were a really smart mammal? Anyone know why they beached?

Nice. Who amongst us would not have done the same.

I don't think there has ever been one definitive factor confirmed, scientifically. That's the key; SCIENTIFICALLY. Especially, mass strandings like this one. It appears the pod just follows the leader into shallower water. I've seen them be returned to the sea, only to turn around and beach themselves again. Incidents where a single animal will beach may be because the animal is sick or injured; hence the necropsy.

Now for mass strandings, there have been various theories and some groups w/ ulterior motives have proposed everything from the military (navy sonar) to pollution, to ship noise to the "evilness" of man in general. It may never be "solved" or there may be multiple, individual or differing influences/causes at work in each case. Perhaps each one is unique?
