Dive/swim ladder 22 Cruiser

Hello, guys I need some advice. I have twin 50's and I plan to add a removable dive ladder but I need advice on placement of the bracket. Is starboard just behind the cabin a suitable place? I was thinking that I could use the existing handle for help entering the boat. My wife has a difficult time entering the boat from the stern with out slipping in the splashwell. Is there enough thickness on the side of a c-dory to support nearly any adult? Has anyone ever done this type of installation?

Just a thought about the splash well. Regardless of where you site the ladder, try using some adhesive non skid strips in there. When we anchor stern in, that makes getting into the cockpit a lot safer.

If I recall, most of the boarding ladders have their brackets on the top of the gunnel, and I suspect that it is plenty strong.
 
I have twin 50's as well and ended up going with a three step ladder from West Marine that stows easily inside the gunnel. I just flip the ladder around for easy usage. My 73 year old dad is able to use it without any problems. It was about $50. I'm not sure how to post pics in this forum but i'll try.
 
My 2006 has gunnel mount. very solid place, and yes, using the cabin back grab rail is a big help. Also, put mounts on both sides, that way you can put the ladder on either side. You'll thank me for that bit of advice.
 
Thank you all for the advice. As some of you stated the gunnel would have enough support for the bracket. I want to be clear about exact gunnel placement. Would you say just above the rub rail or just below? I don't think the bracket and ladder would work mounted to the top of the gunnel?

Take a look at my pictures, I had a bracket made so I can use a boarding ladder on the side just aft of the cabin bulkhead so you have hand holds...works really well.

We added a 2 step boarding ladder, well, more like steps, in our 22 soon after we bought her 5 years ago. Probably one of the best things ever to go on "Kim Christine." Mounts are on both sides of the cockpit, so you need to buy an extra set. Through bolt mounts above cut out for side storage with ss machine bolts and nuts.

We have the wood treads, not the plastic.
A little more expensive than some other solutions, but very secure and bullet proof.
