Well, I think this is our year for Desolation Sound.
I have put in for three weeks vacation from July 16th to August 8th. That coincides with two CBGTs. We are heading north after the Bellingham weekend and if things go as planned, we will stop by the Montigue Hbr. gathering on our way back south.
For those of you that have been there, done that, and have the tee shirt to show, what are some of your must see faverate spots. From what I've read, Desolation Sound is a very popular cruising ground. We want to see the sights but would like to avoid the crowds.
With three weeks I'm going to go slow, take my time and RELAX.
If anyone else will be heading up north at that time, let us know, it would be nice to meet up, visit with a fellow C-Brat.
 
Terry, you guys will love this, it is all great. Get the Douglass - hemingway book Exploring the South Coast of BC. It is WELL worth the price. My favorite anchorage is Von Donop Inlet, a great place to be away from the crowds at places like Prideaux Haven. Check the photo album from the 2005 C-Brat cruise to Desolation Sound.

Pat is right about VonDonop Inlet. In fact all of Cortez Island is interesting and has fascinating history. A fun read before you go is Destination Cortez Island by June Cameron. You'll use it as a guide to the historic spots on the Island. Hopefully Gorge Harbor Resort and their wonderful restaurant will still be there. I read where they are threatened by new shellfish leases. You'll have a great time.
 
My favorite two spots are Roscoe Bay and Teakerne Arm.

It's a pretty spot with a nice lake for swimming and a dinghy dock. Popular during the day, but few people spend the night there since anchoring is difficult.

Roscoe Bay has access to a nice lake for swimming as well as a hike up to the top of West Redonda Island with good views.

I think I'm in the minority here, but I really like Lund. There is a nice bakery (with free wi-fi), a few restaurants, and some art galleries.

I'd recommend spending a few hours on Savary Island. We anchored in about six feet of water and rowed in for lunch at a restaurant and to walk around on the sandy beaches. Definitely a cool spot.

Not sure if you've done Princess Louisa Inlet, but if you haven't yet you should this summer. It's often crowded, and with good reason. The scenery is spectacular and there is a nice (if you are in decent shape) hike up to the trappers cabin.

Where are you launching from? There are tons of cool places to go in the area...
