Denatured Alcohol

Anyone (in Canada) know where to get denatured alcohol for the Oringo stoves? So far, Steveston Marine has 4 litre jugs for $30.00 is only source I've found. At that price, I am thinking of using a propane or white gas (naptha) stove.

Thanks,
Grazer

In the U.S. I have been able to purchase stove alcohol in the paint dept of my local hardware store, Lowe's, and even WalMart. Their price is 1/2 what you state (U.S.$)

Hi Grazer,
why don't you go to Can. Tire and buy some Methyl Hydrate, that's where I got some last time I needed it. I don't think you should use White Gas
ON!! your Boat.
Cheers, Peter.

Thanks for the responses. The problem remains the same, can't find denatured alcohol (ethanol) at Canadian Tire or Homehardware. I bought the last 1 litre of marine fuel for $17.00, ouch!

I think I'll try methly hydrate.

Methyl hydrate works fine and is cheaper, some folks mind the smell when burning though. Stove alcohol in Canada is pricey. George

Methyl hydrate is methanol, whose fumes are way more toxic than those of denatured alcohol. Not a reason to avoid it for stove use, but keep the area of use well ventilated, especially during transfers.

Thanks for the heads up. A 4 litre jug at Can Tire is $10.00. That is quite a difference. It looks like one could use Fondue Fuel as well. Slightly more expensive but less than the marine fuel. Fondue Fuel is refined methyl hydrate, with no unpleasant odor.
