December 2003 Day Cruise

OK, how does this work? Leo picks the date, presumably a Sunday in December (7th, 14th or 21st).

Depart Gene Coulon Park in Renton, WA about 9:00 am. Motor up Lake Washington to Montlake Cut. Through cut, across Lake Union to Ship Canal (maybe with a turn around Lake Union thrown in just for fun), through Ballard Locks, motor around Elliott Bay, maybe over to Alki Point. Back through locks, tie up at Ivar's Salmon House dock, probably not too crowded in December, lunch is fish and chips (oysters and chips, clams and chips, etc.) and chowder at the Fish Bar (it is outside, not the sit down dealiebob inside. Leisurely return to Coulon.

Any takers?

Got it! Sounds like it needs to be the 14th for Sea Shift...that work for everybody? And who is everybody? I know Miss Mirth is up for it, how about Brock, how about the rest of you?

I totally agree with Leo picking the date. I just hope he doesn't pick Dec. the 7th or Dec. the 21st. :wink

Any chance it could be the 13th? Pat have you ever tried Chinooks at Fishermans Terminal. It has a great fish and chips place and it is very protected from the boat traffic.

Fred

I could do the 13th if I launched at Magnuson Park and had "Sea Shift" on the trailer and was heading back home by 1630 HRS. Perhaps, we could launch at daybreak, have lunch together at one of the suggested locations. (It would be dark by 1630 HRS anyhow).

The 13th doesn't work for me, but I think the 14th does. Fred, Chinooks is a great idea. Tasty food and much more protected for our boats.
I wonder if a trip around Elliott Bay, meaning in and out of the locks, is too ambitious, given how early it gets dark.

Hi C-Brats,
Just because I was lucky in picking the date for the Snohomish River cruise, I now have a reputation to maintain!! I don't know about the dates yet, but I do second the motion for Chinook's. If the wind is an issue, altenative launch locations could be at the 14th Ave NW boat ramp (one block east of the north end of the Ballard bridge) or the Shilshole boat ramp (north end of the Shilshole Marina). I don't think we need to worry about any bridge clearances on this trip.
See you on the water, Leo.

Sure, I just tossed this out to see if anybody was interested...it sure seems hard to find a date for everybody though.

It looks like Saturday, December 13, works for everyone except Brock...and everyone wants to be back before dark, so an early start, certainly on the water around 9:00 am (OK, so that is not really early - but it seems early enough). Coulon Park in Renton to Chinook's at Fisherman's Terminal and back, play a run at the locks by ear? Brock - maybe we can do a re-run on a different day so Bambina can get her exercise...

Well, I am guessing it is a shy rose, since the code says ":rose2" Oops - when you type in the code, it makes it into the picture, oh, well - make that :*r*o*s*e*2. Just for kicks, what is :rose ? Aha! Rose 2 is limp and Rose is, well, interested! I DOUBT that there is a scarlet pimpernel emoticon, but if there is, I'll bet Bill will find it!

Pat and Patti, Is that a Scarlet Pimpernel I see in the Emotican list?? Or a shy Rose. :rose2

Hi C-Brats,
I second the motion for Saturday, December 13th. Given how wild the weather has been, it might make sense to have an alternate launch location that offers some protection from the wind. Early January 5 years ago we (My family) had a rainy day cruise that was a lot of fun. We launched at the 14th Ave NW ramp (north end of the Ballard Bridge) and cruised the length of Salmon Bay, the ship canal, Lake Union, Portage Bay, and the Montlake Cut. The windshield wipers were going, the Wallas was on and we were quite comfortable. The sightseeing was great, and since we were in a 6 knot zone, the fuel consumption was minimal. Perhaps Magnuson Park would be a good "foul weather" launch option.
Best Regards, Leo.

Or, we could all launch wherever is most convenient, and monitor channel 68 so we can rendezvous?

Finally! I'm typing on the c-brat site. DaNag - Thanks for the help!

The reason Catman :cat is a maybe for the 12/13 cruise is because of my company's holiday party the night before. We have to be the last to leave because I'm the company party planner which means it will be late, late, late :crook. And, hopefully, we limit the :cocktail. But you know how that goes...

We are staying downtown after the party so we won't be stirring early enough to depart with the group (unless you are leaving around 1pm). We can meet you at Chinook's for lunch (1pm) and maybe the :cat can hitch a ride to Coulon with someone and I'll pick him up when the cruising is finished.

cb (just trying to keep the :cat happy)
