A fire on a boat ain't good, that's for sure. Fortunate that they had the rafts or hypothermia would have done them in.
We don't keep the dingy inflated but that may change after reading this.

You got that right milehog! I've lost too many sailors to fires on ships. :sad Nearly myself a few timesl Scares me worse than flooding. I can swim but I sure am not fire resistant!
 
Wow lite his own boat on fire! the flare are for emergencies.

I was walking out of the ammo dump at Camp LeJeune one bright and sunny day. A new good looking WM was working in the first mag (pop ups, flares, smoke grenades etc..) A single Sargent was showing her the ropes. As the whole work grew was getting to the parking lot a red star pop up flare comes flying out of the mag. Zooooom. a short pause latter the Sargent sticks his head out of the mag to see if anyone saw it. the Captain just waved. He never lived it down.

two weeks later a mortar crew dropped three rounds next to the powder mag I had just locked up. I hate mortar man.
 
Damn is right. Learn how your flares work PRIOR to needing (God forbid) them but do it safely. I treat them like a gun. One end goes "boom". Don't point them at anything important.
 
Hmmmmm, just call me suspicious. I wonder if that is his story and he is sticking to it. :cigar

Charlie, I believe that the length and duration of that particular POPUP was more of a individual achievement ,or lack there of, and no reflection of the overall performance of the U.S.M.C.

squid= the marine are a department of the navy!
marine= yes, the men's department!!!
 
I thought marine stood for "Must Always Ride in Navy Equipment"... :wink:

I think it's because it was put in the "That's Life" forum which is only visible to registered members and not visible on the home page. Registered members will see it as a new post but not on the home page.
