Custom boat letting question

I finally came up with a name for my Tomcat that worked. I'm having boatus.com custom design the decal and I was planning to use 5" height letting based off some research here. They are estimating that the name "True North" will be 65" wide. Doesn't that seem excessive?

If the letters were 5"x5", that would only be 50". Any insight?

Also, any advice on letter hieght?

I still waiting on the first proof. I told them that I don't want too fancy of a font..True North is a fishing boat! I'm also asking for an image of a compas behind the N in a different color.

Based on your subject title I initially thought you were custom renting out your boat :lol:

When I use a tape measure, the 5 inch letter height seems good to me , but the 65 inch length just doesn't make any sense for 9 letters. If you use 9 'fat' letters that are as tall as they are wide that still comes to only 45 inches plus the space, so like you said 50 inches at most?

If you check my C-lark album, the eight letter 'Wine Down' from BoatUS is about 26 inches long. The boat is at the Marina but I cam measure the C-Lark and Wine Down letters if you wish

Have allow for kerning spaces between the letters and between the words. Also depends on the font. While the height may be 5 inches, the width of each letter will be different. Some fonts are more square than others.

I personally think that 5" high is a minimum for sizing. Just seems to me that the boat name should be readable from out past 100 feet. The 5" by 65" seems too long for the height. bold fonts are easier to read and the more blockish the font the easier to read also. For some folks, that doesn't seem to make any difference.

My lettering is 8" and for 8.5 spaces it is only 40" long.
