Cracks on transom of new CD22!

Hello out there,

I will be picking up my new CD 22 next week. I stopped by the dealer
to check on the boat and while nosing around I noticed hairline cracks in the
gelcoat along approx 75% of the outside bottom edge of the transom.
After mentioning it to the dealer he said that it was caused from
the mold not being cleaned out before the layup. Has anybody
out there seen this before? I'm freaking out!

Mike:

I noticed the something similar prior to accepting my 2004, 22 Cruiser. The dealer had a "fiberglass expert"inspect the boat and he assured me that what I saw were not structural cracks but cosmetic blemishes only in the surface of the gel coat. I have run the boat three seasons and have forgot about this until now. I have not noticed any problems and I wax and take care of my boat to an obsessive degree. Let me know what the factory tells you & take a picture so I can determine if we are talking about the same thing.

Best regards,

I had this same "crack" which is actually a mold line. It ran almost all the way along the bottom outside edge of the transom. It was easily fixed at the factory, when they were doing that sort of thing. It had no structural implications.
