Susan and I were running back from Fishermans bay towards pea vine pass when I saw a crab pot buoy just above water and about to be sucked down on a raising tide. This was on a Sunday when the crabbing is closed. We slowed down and took a look at the pot which was very new looking and not a old lost pot. As required by law that name address and phone # of the owner was on the float So I call the guy to tell him where his pot was.
Now a lot of people claim that their pot was stolen when in reality they just set it in too deep of water on a low tide or in a area with high current and not enough weight in the pot and it gets dragged off. Another mistake is not enough weight OR too much float. It does no good to have a hundred lbs pot and a float that will lift 110 lbs..... but it happens.
In this case the pot, along with another, was stolen and later dumped. The owner had set the pots near bellingham. One was found two miles away floating in deep water. The one I recovered was found 8 miles away, west of Blakely. Now if you know the area you know that there is no way in hell, let alone the ocean, that the current took that pot there and left the lid open. Some people are just thieves and should be shoot.
If they are going to steal the crab thats one thing and bad enough, but to just toss the pot out and cause a hazard to boaters and wildlife is the work of the lowest scum. I just had the owners wife come by work and pick up the pot from me. Its was a large steel and wire pot with 100ft of line and new floats, $120???

maybe a small explosive device that activates above 10 ft of water and needs to be deactivated by code?? they would only steal it once.

It came to me in a dream  really messy dream

Actually the explosive device has been Patty's dream since we were first ripped in Birch Bay...

a unnamed freind of mine sets his 100 yards from his beach house. Why? 100yards is max effective range for his 22 bolt action. you all be carefull out there.

Somebody somewhere said they use a duck decoy as a float...doesn't jump right out at ya as a crab pot...kind of "hiding in plain sight".

I've posted before and I'll repeat it: I HATE THIEVES!

In fact, I get a lot of satisfaction in my career when it comes to dealing with them in the proper manner. The problem IMO lies in the courts & the prosecutors; not enough consequences for their actions in this state. Nuff said...

State law: it has to be a half red/half white float in Wa. State.

Well, that takes all the fun out of it, then.

red head mallard???red head white chest and info on the bottom side??

I guess you COULD technically paint a duck decoy red & white but I would think a red/white seagull decoy would be more "realistic".
