Covered moorage in Olympia WA

I kept my boat in a covered slip at Zittel's Johnson Point Marina for years. It's a great location for access to any of the south sound area, from Shelton to Tacoma. The view's not bad, either.

In the Olympia area there's a few options, but the two best are gonna be West Bay marina and Zittels that I know of. West Bay marina has a great restaurant and bar, it's a cool place and probably where'd Id pick. When we lived in Olympia we used Boston Harbor marina the most, but there's no covered moorage. There's some covered slips closer in towards downtown Olympia, but the covered ones I believe are all private ownership. The public marina down town doesn't have any covered slips that I've seen. Its a nice spot to own a boat, our favorite was to just head north to Squaxin island get into the protected passage between Squaxin Island and Harstine island. On the east side of Squaxin is a number of peaceful coves you can anchor and hang out. its usually dead calm in there.

Why do you guys need covered slips in the PNW?! You don't even get any snow! Just kidding.

Here are a couple of shots taken one December near our Boston Harbor. (It's nearly as famous as yours.)

Actually, snow is not much of an issue here most years. Nor is extreme cold. I left my boat in the water year round and never had any trouble with freeze damage. It does rain some, and believe it or not, the sun does come out occasionally, so a covered slip is still a nice thing to have.
