Cost to repower a 22 Cruiser in 2017

If one found an older 22 Cruiser that needed a complete repower, what is a good ballpark figure, using nothing from existing setup, installed and complete? (except tax which varies by location)
And of course that begs the question "repower with what?", so you should answer that part first! I was thinking the new Honda 100 to Yamaha 115 to whatever else is recommended.

Bill,
I can't help you with the price but I would suggest that you seriously consider twin 40 or 50's. It will help you immensely with marina docking. If you normally trailer or have a mooring and docking isnt an issue for you then I'd still recommend twins.

I have recently pondered re powering. I won't comment on the twins or Single + kicker Situation, but I looked at both options.

A Yami 115xb I was quoted 9,100 and a t9.9 high thrust 2,790.

Yamaha 60hp twins come in at 6,840 each.

My current setup is twin 40s, so the twin 60's would be an easier repower without having to change bolt configurations, steering arm, and drain hole in splashwell. I'm not saying to base your opinion on what your currently set up with (single or twins) but it saves a little money or effort in the end. When your spending a large check on re powering though I feel you should really get what you want IMO.

There are plenty of threads on this forum with twins v.s singles and kickers. Also plenty of threads on the best repower outboards either way you go.

I was just quoted $!5,000 to repower using twin 50 Honda's and $16000 for twin 60's...that included new controls and gauges plus installation...

I put my 40 Yamaha carburetor motors...on EBAY and did not get any bids listing them for $3000 each..(500 hours) Guess I will not repower...

Jason is making a good point. As noted there are plenty of places that cover twins vs singles. It comes down to a personal choice. Mine would be for twins, YMMV.

Joel,
Do not repower with motors with 500 hours on them, IMHO.
Those Yamaha motors will last forever, almost, when properly maintained.
If they are carbed then just get used to the finicky, sometimes, starting procedure. After awhile, it's not a big deal when you are used to the procedure. Fuel injection is nice, but not for the big bucks they seem to want.

I would look for a boat show special if I were in the market for a repower, otherwise, maintain and run regularly, that seems to be the best thing for any engine.

First figure out twins or single .Then go from there .

I re-powered last year with a Merc 115 CT from a Yamaha 115
The reason was twofold the Merc had the bigger prop set
15by 17 pitch vs a 13 1/2 15 pitch for the Yamaha and Yamaha was 11 years old with over 1000 hours So I sold the Yamaha while it still had good resale .So around the dock reverse a lot better control top end the same but the Merc uses a little more fuel about 4 smpg at 4000rpm 20mph at 2000 rpm about 6 smpg and 6 mph .

I researched here in Naples fl. area the Merc was the least expensive by a few thousand $ .

The year before last I repowered my 2000 22 cruiser. It had a 2000 Yamaha 80 4 stroke. I installed a new Yamaha F70. Only reason being I was fed up with the carberators. I don't use it as much as I used to. It's nice to have fuelinjection. No worries so far. The motor New was $7000 with 5 year warentee. I sold the F80 off the back of the boat for $2500. It all worked out well for me. The F 70 is plenty for me on inland lakes and rivers. I almost need to add weight to the transom. I think I will install my Suzuki 9.9 4 stroke it weighs have the weight of the F70. LOL. The F 70 sips gas and I can move at 24 mph top speed.

Bill and Sherry, maybe you should consider buying Joel's Yamahas. I would, if I were in the market.

We repowered our 22 cruiser a few months ago with a 2017 Suzuki 115hp from Sportcaft marine in Portland . We paid $10495 for the motor, install, prop, top mount control box and cables . We paid $420 for the c-10 gauge and $125 for the troll mode switch. We have over 20 hours on the motor now and are very happy with it's performance.

I just repowered my 95 angler . I bought it during the 2017 Seattle boat Show and got some good incentives as boat show special.
I put a new 90 E-Tec and all the rigging and a new stainless prop for $11,000.00.
it replaced a 1995 Honda 90 so I went from carbureted to fuel injection and am loving the new motor.

I repowered Sealife last year with new twin Suzuki 50s, white. They look great and give super good mileage. I was able to use previous binnacle and control cables....roughly $12,000-13,000 including removing old and installing new.
