Judy and I will be in Corolla, NC during the week of Aug 7 thru Aug 14 and I am wondering if someone with local knowledge can point out a source for boat rentals and places we ought to see while there. We will be staying on the Bayside of Currituck Sound. Fishing info...etc. would be welcomed.

Thanks in Advance

www.outer-banks.com/visitor-info/ will get you a comprehensive visitors guide and a link to local information.

Kayaking is the way to see the shoreline of the Outer Banks, including the bird sanctuaries just off Whalebone Club. Plenty of lighthouses to see along the entire OBX.

And go to Dirty Dicks to get your crabs. Seriously, it is the name of a seafood chain on the OBX with great crabs and other seafoods.

you are really close to kitty hawk. I visited there 20years ago and enjoyed it. We drove our motorcycles up and back. the drive back to base in Jacksonville took us down the outer islands and on to two different ferries. we got off one ferry with 10 minutes to get to the next ferry 10 miles away on the other end of the island. we barely made it and I cant tell you what the island looked like at all. if we had missed the ferry it would have been a 16 hour wait for the next one in the morning.

There is also the Hatteras's light house. Which is amazing not only for the size but they moved it once. Motor-head city is also very nice and a lot of fishing charters there. Have fun.

Bill & El: Wish I could but, got a new car last month that gets 35 mpg and doesn't have a tow package. We are going to be on the road for 3 weeks and only a week of that on the Outter Banks.

We will be touring the state of Tennisee, Kentucky and Ohio hooking up with as many of our C-Brat friends as possable along the way.

Thanks for all the tips and the private message invites.

If you do decide to avail yourself of the NC Ferry System, a couple of 'em will cost you and require reservations. They are Swan Quarter-Ocracoke, Cedar Island-Ocracoke and Southport-Fort Fisher. www.ncferry.org has info and schedules.

Can tell you from first hand experience that during the tourist season it is often hard to get a space on a ferry with even calling for a reservation a week ahead. And Space "A" is practically non-existent!

Watch out for the wild ponies around Duck. Go to the hunt club and climb the tower. Unless you have 4wd you don't want to drive onto the sand at the north end.

We had some good times at Duck and the surrounding environs.

Orange Blossom Bakery in Buxton (near the Hatteras Light House) for "apple ugly's". Mmm good! Only open in the morning. That's all I'm sayin.

Away at the south end of the OBX is Ocracoke Island (short ferry ride every half hour or so from Hatteras). It is really a lovely island, with 9/10's of it wildlife refuge and homes, restaurants, stores, marinas all clustered at the south end of the island. It is far less built up than the rest of the OBX. One of our favorite places on the coast. You can catch a ferry from Hatteras back to the mainland if you want to tack a visit to Ocracoke on to the end of your stay. Enjoy!

Hi,
I would go to Kitty Hawk see the Wright Bros. thing, Take the causeway west over to Maneo cute town right over the causeway good food, drive down to Hatteras if you drive by a marine around three or four o'clock, stop in and look at the fish coming off the boats, take the free ferry to Ocracoke which has a Key West Flavor and check out the restaurants. The Back Porch and one on the right as you get into the main part of town right across from the community store sort of, it's in a garden type setting food is wonderful. I forget the name, have fun.

Just left Oriental this morning and stopped in at Moble East Marine to say "Hi" and visit with C-Dory folks. It was nice to run into Cal-The Deckhand, who just happened to be hanging out at the front counter. Cal was the first to give me some pointers as to what to see and do here on the OBX.

Mike, hope you're having a great time. We're going down to the NC gathering in late Sept in Oriental, followed by a week at the beach near Kitty Hawk with family in a house with 8 Bedrooms! Will put the boat in the water at a marina in Manteo if I can find one that's reasonable. Otherwise, I'll keep it on the trailer and launch it when we want to use it.

Looks like good weather, the storm is out around Bermuda and moving away.
