I am new to this board and am considering buying a C-Dory 19' for fishing and camping in the Puget Sound area. I would love to hear pros and cons before making the decision.

Short answer-

C-Dory- Excellent choice!

CD-19 for fishing- Ditto!

CD-19 for boat camping aboard/cruising- (IMHO): Consider instead CD-22 Cruiser (with Alaskan Bulkhead and improved galley, dinette, and a more suitable interior for overnighting, etc.)

They're both great boats, but the 22 Cruiser will fit most folks needs better than the 19.

Also, you can buy a used 22 for about the same or less than a 19 as there are more of them and they've been made for a much longer period.

(No offense intended to the CD-19 owners!!!)

Hello Jeff,

We have the 19ft and love it. It is a GREAT fishing platform for two people, you can fish up to four people but you need to work together. We are just day fishers, thats the main reason we went for the 19. If we were going to camp I would have gone for the 22 with the extra kitchen area, just my opinion. One thing to consider if you get the 19 is the weight distrabution. Not haveing the extra 3ft in the cabin area makes it a little sensitive to tail weight. So you need to keep your engine weight down. I went with the Evinrude E-Tec 90 for that reason and I am very happy with it. The boat trailers very well and launches and retreaves very easy. I am sure others will jump in with their coments so good luck and if you get a C-Dory you will not regret the choice. A GREAT boat and a comunity that goes with it that is unmatched.

We originally thought we'd buy a 19, but went to the 22 for the aforementioned reasons...we love staying on the boat either on the hook or at the dock -- and Steve and I both really love getting a cup of coffee or a hot meal while we're out and about. We've decided the Wallas is the best option we got on the boat. :thup
