Coho (silver) Salmon

yesterday a good friend and I launched the Sensei at the Everett boat launch and headed South to Mukilteo past the Ferry landing about a mile and then we dropped our gear and proceded to try our luck at catching some Coho Salmon.
we trolled about 15 minutes at 110 feet down on the rigger. then we went down to 140 ft and 10 minutes later the first pole hit. it was a nice 11 lb hook nosed Coho. it was fun bringing it to the boat. it surfaced out about 75 feet and was jumping and running trying to throw the hook.finaly got it in and back to trolling at 140 ft. then it got slow for about an hour and then Bam, one pole goes down and then the other goes down and we are able to bring in a double. a 9 lb and a 6 lb. now we have 3 in the cooler and we need one more to fill our limit.another hour goes by and then we hit another school and Bam, Bam, another double hookup.we get to take our choice and we bring a nice 4 lb into the boat and let a 3 or 4 lb go to grow some.
all in all, it was a great day out on the water and we had some exciting minutes landing those fish.
on the way to the launch we saw Anna Leigh tied to the dock in Everett and there were a lot of enforcement boats from arround the sound there also.must have been some sort of training going on.one boat was a U.S.Customs boat that must have been about 26 ft and had four 300 mercs on the transome. and several police boats with three 250's on them
.

The exercise was a radiation detection excercise involving most of Homeland Security. Customs, FBI, all the local jurisdictions and 10 USCG Aux facilities that were the bad guys. We all had a State of WA Health Dept specialists on board with controlled radiation that the good guys needed to find. We were the boat that got that 1200 HP Customs and Border Patrol Boat pulling us over.

Thought I saw you go by.

Some pictures of West Coast Coho would be great to see? I will start fishing Coho here in a couple of weeks.Tug

Roger, in case you didn't recognize.....that was me in the van that waved as we passed you on I-5 Northbound at Marysville yesterday. Had I not been entertaining some of Carol's family, I would have been on the water with the law enforcement exercise yesterday as well. I started following you on Northbound 529 and waited to pass you until the traffic settled S of 4th street.
Good to see you.
