Cockpit Fishfinder / Plotter

Hey. Wondering if anyone has installed a cockpit fishfinder or plotter. I'm thinking of installing a 7" plotter above the bathroom window on a Venture 26. Wondering if anyone else has done a similar thing.

I'm interested in doing the same thing on my 25 Cruiser. Next year I will add a helm and kicker control under the head window.

I like the system that Colby Smith has on his boat.

That's pretty slick. I'm not going to do a second helm but this is a very clean install by Colby: IMG_8974.sized.jpg
There's way less room over the window on the C-25 vs the Venture 26

I installed the Garmin autopilot with throttle control for the kicker and really like it. I can steer and control my speed while fishing from anywhere in the boat. It works better than expected and does not sacrifice any space in the cockpit. I agree, docking with it would be interesting but probably doable with practice.

If using for fishing/trolling I thought this setup might be better placement as my eyes are always facing aft when I’m in the cockpit. I installed this over the winter so haven’t used it in this configuration yet.

Depending on your electronics you might be able to install and App that mirrors your chart plotter or fish finder on you iPad. I recently installed a new Raymarine Axiom+ system. There are different Apps that allow you to view and control your electronics. I keep my iPad in a waterproof case and use a Ram mount.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've been trying to use the iPad. It does a good job of mirroring the Garmin however it needs to be plugged in for a day of fishing and the screen behind a waterproof cover is not nearly as good as a proper plotter / fish finder. I'm going to keep experimenting with it though. Having the plotters networked would give you full control from either screen.

I was also thinking of a rear mount near the outboard with a Seaview Pod. I may also go this route as it would minimize holes in the boat and make the plotter less "stealable".

You can get a plotter for about the same or less than an iPad. Depending on the system you can network the plotters together.
