Clueless.....but not in Seattle

I copied this little story from a local SF Delta adventure just as a funny (but sad) anecdote on the state of fishing in the bay area. Sorry, it's not CD related but just too funny not to pass along. Did not actually happen to me, for once.

My wife and I were trolling the False river yesterday and had the line out about 80'. Not another boat in sight .
We had been there about 2 hours and done nicely..several shakers and one keeper 22"
Then someone arrived and started trolling right on top of my lures.
I mean right on top.
Miles of open area.
Since I was running shallow divers near the bank this was not going to work.

We pulled up and went about a mile up current..20 minutes later the same guy was back in my wake.

I dropped back and very nicely..thru clenched teeth..asked him why he was fishing my wake and it could spook the fish as he was right over my lures.
His answer astounded us.

"We just wanted to see if we could see the fish hit the lures!"
I could not get angry as we were laughing too hard.
First time boaters and they were dead serious.
Thought they would be able to see the fish hit the lures.

I explained that stripers spook easily and besides the water is not clear enough to see a strike. etc.
I then realized these people did not have clue about boating safety.
They had bought the boat from a neighbor.
An older Sears 14' with about a 15 hp and 2 adults and two children .
A huge ice chest and overcrowded.
No life vests in sight.
Only the throw type for seat cushions.
The old motor smoking like a destroyer laying a smoke screen.
Nice people, but clueless.
Just clueless.
