Chartview User's Guide

I've posted notices about Chartview at the Nerd Shack before without much response, but I'm still hoping to initiate a collaborative effort. I've started a User's Guide that you can view, along with a link to download a tar file for Chartview at this link:

At this point there's still a massive amount of work to do, but I've now actually used Chartview on my boat, and it works, though still very inefficiently, with lots of bugs. It's free and open-source, under the GPL.

How good is the quilting and zooming? We purchased all of the charts (including the inland waterways) for $39 including Offshore navigator lite. Wonder if it is worth the time to have to calibrate the charts etc?

Bob - I think this is a Linux only effort that smittypaddler is undertaking, do you play around with Linux? I have Ubuntu on my PCs, but I really don't get under the hood much, if I can't get software off the net using the included installation managers, I would be lost as to how to deal with it from the command line

Thanks, Pat, No I have not gotten Linux yet--but my son's girl friend works full time as a programer in Linux, and also works in other languages, plus consults for Cisco. I need to try it out, but I have both Windows XP (plus one with 98 SE) and a couple of Mac's. I just don't have time to work in another computer language currently....
