Channel Islands Quickie?

Kevin,
We'll miss you. Was hoping to meet you. I think we may have met a couple years ago, if that was you diving by the old quarry at Catalina? You had a couple of nice calicos.

Salty-Cs may also arrive for a few days of boating with Dive Cat, while the rest of us suckers have to return to work.

My son says "great" -- diving in the rain...wonderful! (not)

Hey, if the wind is from the West, that makes All the common coastwise and East end anchorages great!

Got my heater finished last night about 12:15am, sat back, took a deep breath, hit the remote switch, and, wow -- it fired right up sucking gas about 1 inch per second up the 4 foot tube till it reached the heater and then combustion! I'll explain, with pictures Joel, in the other thread.

Steve

Islander will be there. Looking forward to it.
I will be at the boat Friday and ready to leave 9:00am Saturday. Hopefully the WX holds.

I will see you guys in front of the landings at 9:00am Saturday. How long is the trip out there, and when are we planning on returning? Also, Mike do you have the Coast Guard contact information for my wife? Just in case she decides to go into labor and we are out of cell phone range. Thanks see ya,

Scott on Lil' Rascal

Scott,

Have not talked to the station yet......will be there tomorrow and will advise them to be on lookout for your wife's call. Their phone number is 805-985-9822. I'll be sleeping at the landing tomorrow night, so I'll be ready on Saturday bright and early. Mucho chores tomorrow....refuel, provisioning, attaching bimini.

It sure was a quickie!!!!!
Left the harbor a little after 0900 this morning to find the seas at 6-8' swells at about 5 seconds........ Steep, Very steep. About 1.5 miles out three boats turned back to the harbor. Dora~Jean and Fishtales continued another 2 miles before turning back. When we had to slow to 3 knots and still pounding, and more whitecaps ahead, we decided to go another day.
Met with DiveCat at the canvas shop to let them know. May try to do a short run up to Ventura tomorrow for lunch.

Spent a couple hours with Roger in the cockpit of the boat while the very professional canvas lady measured all windows on Dive Cat next to her shop. Mike stopped by for a quick look on his way home. Katy and I then drove to the ramp parking lot and settled in for our first night on board. Good practice and an enjoyable experience!

This morning we launched, made the east end of Anacapa in about 35 minutes, meandered up the outside, tested the compressor (it worked!), then crossed the straight and continued up the inside of Santa Cruz. Turned back to Channel Islands about noon, then met up with Roger and PJ at the washdown.

Great day! When the weather is more predictable, we'd love to try this gathering again. It is a wonderful place to cruise. After all the rain, the islands are really beautiful.

Roger, thanks for your effort putting it together. See you maybe next week?

Bob Cat

Hey Bob, glad SOMEBODY got a good cruise out of the weekend, good for you! What were the seas like on Sunday? Friend of mine at work went fishing on a party boat around Catalina, said the water was like glass after about 9am.

Hi, Steve

He's right. A little surface chop was left over in the channel early. We got to the outside behind the east end about 8:45 and it was like glass. On the inside of Santa Cruz at the east end the water had a little more chop with underlying swell, but still very comfortable and easy. We could have continued straight on up to Painted Caves.

I had transferred most of my dive stuff to the back of the truck before we launched. It would have been very tempting to pick off a few scallops from the cliffs at east end of SC. The compressor works great. The smoke that had been coming off the manifold wrap is a normal breakin and lasts about 30-45 minutes, according to the manufacturer.

The mother ship is now ready to support dive operations!

Hey Roger, how's the trailer coming? Everyone, what'dya think about a "Channel Islands Quickie II" next weekend, 6-7 May? Any later and it's too close to the Delta gathering. Supposed to be warm...

Well--- ya know how it goes----
They said the trailer would be ready by mid-week, they still haven't called  Maybe they were talking about next week :?
I'm calling them today, hope to pick it up tomorrow

We are going to a BBQ on the 7th in support of my candidate for S.B. County Sheriff. The incumbent has caused too much trouble in the Dept. that several good Deputies have left. He also botched the investigation on M.J. the "gloved one".

Hi folks,

Is anyone interested in a Channel Islands, Could we try Santa Cruz again for maybe the weekend of June 24th?? Mike? Roger? Scott? Steve? Joel? Sam and Kerry?

Ron, yep, ready for summer, I'm open 17th and 24th. Hey, just had to buy that Anacapa Cave book which I think is the same one you have, interesting reading, had no idea there were that many caves on Anacapa. Now we're ready to go cav'n too one of these trips. Maybe dive one day then cave next possibly.

Sounds good to me. The 24th is fine with us.
Tried to get out last weekend--- rough on Saturday, one of the guys got sick so we came back in. Still high swells on Sunday, went up to Ventura for breakfast. Took Sue with us, since Joel ran away from home again.

Roger,

I can't think that far ahead these days. If I am not flying and Sonia lets me I am up for it. I will let you know as the 24th gets closer.

Scott

Yep.....went out Monday, and TWO of my passengers got sea sick! Cool so we have three boats for sure and maybe scott.

Scott, can't you run away from home like Joel too?! :P

Gee, guys, don't forget us . . .

Unfortunately, we're up to our eyeballs in the Auxiliary OPEX that weekend in Long Beach. Dive Cat got facilitized and was out for the first time last Saturday and Sunday with crew and coxswain trainees. Out again this weekend and Monday.

Hope you have good weather and a great Gathering!

Bob Cat

PS: We'll be up in July for the cockpit bimini.

Hi Bob,

I hope you did not feel left out. I don't always get on the site as often as I like too, so I'm a little behind the power curve with all the newer names and boats!

Anyone else I missed, want to go? :D
