Channel Islands Quickie?

Opps..........I gooffed! Natalie tells me that we will be going away on the 29th of April. If you guys end up going on the 22nd of April I'm in. Otherwise have a great time.

Ron

ha ha ha--- ok
Which is it? the 22nd or the 29th? Either one is ok with me.
Bob? Can you make it on the 22nd?
Looks like Mike and Ron need the 22nd.
Scotty? Kevin?

Hi, Roger

Today I was invited to a "can't say no" CGAux function in Phoenix on April 21. Conceivably, we could come out and meet you on Sunday and continue on for a few days. I've contacted Peggy and will set up an appointment based on the weekend this gathering happens.

Best we can do for 22-23.

Bob Cat

Roger,

I prefer the 22nd. I fly out on the redeye to NY on the 30th, which would make for a long day and night if we were to return on the afternoon of the 30th. I would still try to make the 29th and just leave early Sunday morning if need be.

Hey Kevin & Christine (DAS BOOT) -- I'm the 'idiot' that was yelling and waving at you that night at Avalon in February from the shore! You said you saw our boat about 100 yds away, wondered who it was. So, maybe we'll finally meet??

Steve

ya ya. I remember you. Beautiful 25 foot cruiser with the shamrock on the side !

That was a great weekend at Catalina. We dove some shipwrecks in the area, recovered 2 bottles of nice old champagne and limited out on lobster. Shot some fish. Had a blast.

Diving WX has really sucked the last month here in So Cal.

So its been work and boat projects for the last 30 days. I am looking forward to Santa Cruz Island outing. We'll see if we can get a pictuire of the Dories in Painted Cave...

Looks like the weekend of the 22nd - 23rd.
Sam- Come on up, looks like Bob (Dive Cat) will be able to stay over a couple days with you.
Kevin- ya- the WX had been terrible for diving. Hope we have some good vis for the dive. Last time I was at Santa Cruz, we had maybe 10 feet vis.
Looks like the WX is finally starting to settle.

Hey Roger,

That "weekend" was pegged for Catalina...but if anyone (Bob would be great company, I'm sure) would consider staying Mon-Wed...we would be up for a trip North...even though we really miss Catalina. Wish we could be there Sat and Sun...working weekends rots.

Spent the day in the Gap (Anacapa / Santa Cruz) listened in on the radio with Eric (Peace) and Tim (Scepter) Dive Boats-- they were trying to find some decent water for diving. The best they could find was only 10' vis. Hope it clears up in the next couple weeks.

The water was flat and calm today, with a small south/west swell- 2 to 3 foot at maybe 12 seconds.

Channel Islands Quickie gang,

So now that we have a date that we are going to Santa Cruz, what is the thoughts of everyone for anchorages? I have never overnighted at SC so I would like to hear your thoughts.

Ron,
Smugglers at the East end is the easiest for sure, as long as there aren't Santa Ana's blow'n. Roger and others may have other ideas, maybe depends on where we plan to dive.

Roger,
Nice bunch of fish! I thought it would have been rough out there because of the Westerly winds blowing in Simi today. Never can tell, just got to get out there and check for yourself. Yes, hope the vis gets better, 10 feet ain't much.

Steve

Ron,

Hopefully the rain will stay north of us, but I doubt it :(

Smugglers is a good anchorage most of the time. We usually have a westerly swell. When the swell is south/westerly (like today) it can have a little bump.

It was a little better, today, in Little Scorpion. We'll see what the swells are in a couple weeks.

Roger,

I am a go for the trip. Is there cell phone service at the islands. My wife is very pregnant. Also is my one anchor enough? See ya,

Scott on Lil Rascal

Scott,
I don't know-- if shes "very Pregnant", it may take a couple anchors

Some parts of the islands have service- some areas --no.

It depends on where we anchor. Some anchorages are small and best to use two anchors. If we anchor at Smugglers, we can use one anchor.

It was bumpy out there today- south swell. Not very good for Smugglers. Prisoners would have been a good choice for today.
We'll have to wait and see what the swell is when we go.

Best to have a second anchor just in case.
