CD-22 Dinett to Berth Conversion

I am a newby CD22 owner and unfortunatly I am not near the dealer to ask this question.
How do you convert the table to a berth? I figured out how the table drops down and I put it the little leg support, but its wobbly and it seems there is way too much stress on the table hinges. That if you sit on it, the hinges will pull right out.
Is there a cushion I need to order to fill in the space? I thought it would be a simple thing, but this simple mind cant seem to figure out how its supposed to go.

Thanks for any help.

Bill,

The hinges on the folding part of the table haven't been a problem for us and ours isn't "wobbly". The table should drop right down with the table top in the upright position and fit snugly between the fore and aft seats and be supported by the "lip" made for that purpose.

From the comment about the gap in the cushions, you must have the reversible seat, as we do. My wife made a filler cushion with foam and some green Sunbrella that we got from our local canvas guy (picture in our album). Without the filler, anyone who slept there was uncomfortable due to the cushions sliding around. I don't know of a factory cushion that fills the gap.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Dear Bill:

My "conversion" is more elaborate than what you are asking about, but for ideas you might want to look at the photos in my sub-album "Dinette to Sofa Conversion."

It sounds like you are dealing with two issues: (1) stabilizing the table in the down position; (2) filling in the cushions gap.

My table drops down similar to Nick's: see photos in my album. Could you add/mount a 1x2 to the seat box on each side, to accomplish the same thing? (This is what I did on the insides of the seat boxes, to create a top for the seat boxes level with the table.)

The (original) seat backs in my CD were supposed to fill the gap across the table in the down position. But the coverage was very poor. As Nick suggests, you might make (or have made) a filler cushion to fit this space OR an air mattress might work (if your intended use is a bed).

For my "conversion" I made use of store-bought outdoor lounge cushions, which we use for both sofa-sitting and sleeping (esp. napping!).

We have the sliding front seat and when we convert the cushions are very tight front to stern. Sounds like the exact opposite of your set up. Go figure. We have never used it as a berth, but when you lay on it the cushions do not buckle up.

A quirk of the breed!

Have fun.

Thanks for the great ideas. I love the boat, but it is going to be a work in progress for some time.

Does anyone ever really finish with these boats? There is just so much you can do with them!

Thanks again,

Bill
