Catalina 2009

Hi folks,

I was wondering if any of you are going over to Catalina this August? I know I would like to go over in August and would like to be there if any of the C-Dory group is there. The week of August 17th would be the traditional week. I don't have a C-Dory anymore, but I sure did enjoy the camaraderie at Catalina.

I'm planning on joining the group again this year, too.

I'd also be interested in towing up to the Ventura area some weekend or slightly extended weekend for a Channel Islands trip if any of you locals up there are looking for another boat to tag along.

Keep me in mind and give a little heads up if you have plans for fishing or poking around out there.

Jeff

Hi Scott,

I had propsoed August 17th. But there really has been nor further discussion.
I plan on being over there, on two occasions.

Marcia and I are aboard for Two Harbors during the week of the 17th.

That's how we discovered C-dories and the C-brats. We were there two years ago in our Wellcraft center console (cold and wet) and saw how much fun the group was having.

We're looking forward to it! :D

I've got it penciled in for the week of August 17th unless something weird comes up to keep me away. I'll bet I can make at least part of the week.

Week of the 17th August sounds good to me, not sure if I'll spend the whole week or not, kid-availability is the question.

I just got back from a 2-day'r at the Isthmus on the string line. No space problem Friday and early Saturday, but I imagine the bulk we're coming over while we were leaving about noon. Very nice weather, ideal, light breeze, 75-80F or so, about the same as I was last there. Volleyball net is still in good shape (this is important...!), good tunes at night at the dance floor. Fishing wasn't good at Ship Rock, lots of fish, just not hungry for what I was offering (cut squid).

Oh, and saw another C-Dory, Tortuga (a CD-22), right across from me on the string. We were both pretty occupied with our "crew", his were 3 or 4 little ones, mine were 4 between 15-18 yrs old -- I would have traded...

Great to meet you Steve. I had four on board -- 7 through 13. It occured to me that we may have set some record -- 2 C-Dories with 10 people aboard. Made all those big boats with 2 or 3 folks on board seem like a lot of wasted space.

I won't be able to be there in August as I'll be back at work. But I know you all will have a great time.

Cheers!

Matt

Hi guys,

We are fairly new new to C-brats and C-dory ownership, but we are interested in joining the Catalina group in August 2009. Is there still a contingent heading to Catalina this August? Any divers/fishers? We are leaving from San Diego and may need to go a bit earlier than the 17th...........maybe around the 10-12th-ish depending on weather. Anyone up for some fishing and/or diving? Of course, there is always just good cold beer to enjoy also!!

We are getting a slip for our boat in Marina Del Rey from July 24-Aug24 and plan on going over to Catalina almost every weekend that month. We used to go a lot when we lived in San Diego - this will be the first time going to the island on our C-Dory. Hopefully we will meet some of you over there.

Liz and Ernie,

I dive and both my kids (20, 26) are certified. I will bring my equipment, the diving is great all around there. We generally dive as a group and last year there were several couples who dive, had a great time!

Still not sure of my schedule for that week, but I will be there at least for 3 or more days for sure.

Hi All,

Since we live near Santa Maria, I'm tempted to launch at Channel Islands (good launch ramp and plenty of parking) for the Two Harbors trip. Last time I went to Two Harbors, (last month) I launched in Long Beach (by the Queen Mary). We stayed overnight in the Harbor there and left for Catalina the next morning.

In the past, I've launched at Long Beach (2nd Street) and also at Huntington Harbour. That's a really long way down the 405. There seem to be some real parking problems with Marina del Rey and some truck safety issues with long term parking other places.

Any input would be appreciated!

Hi Kent,

It is a 4 hours cruise from Channel Islands Harbor to Two Harbors.
When we cruise down, we leave around 0700. When returning, we leave Two Harbors around 0600 in order to beat the weather.

It is a nice cruise, wish we were able to go this year, but we are going to Lake Powell instead.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for responding! Would you leave from Channel Islands again, or would you choose to launch further south when you're going to Two Harbors? Wasn't parking the problem in many of the launch sites?

By the way, Peggy at Channel Islands Canvas did a nice job on the canvas. Good recommendation! THANKS!! :D

Kent,

I will make the run from Channel Islands Harbor again. (depending on the weather)
It is much more relaxing than having to drive in L.A. traffic and deal with the parking situation at MdR.

Glad you like the canvas- Peggy does good work.

Roger

Catalina comrades,

Do you all usually stay at Two Harbors? Seems like a nice spot from the website. Looks like we are aiming for August 8-10 in Catalina. Hope to see some of you there!

Does anyone from San Diego area have any comments (good or bad) about leaving our truck and trailer at the Oceanside Harbor parking area?

Liz & Ernie :D
