Canadian SIM Card

Does anyone on here have experience buying and using a prepaid Canadian SIM card? I'm going to be spending ~6-8 weeks or so in BC next summer, and would love to have internet for less than AT&T charges for roaming

I have an unlocked and jailbroken AT&T iPhone which will also be used as a wifi hotspot. I don't care about voice service; I can use Skype or Google Voice to make cheap or free calls to the US or Canada.

My phone normally accesses the Rogers network when I'm in Canada. Is this the best bet for data service along the Inside Passage? Has anyone figured out if there is a data only prepaid option from Rogers for smartphones, and if so, how much it costs?

Good luck is all I can say.

I am not aware of any prepaid SIM cards here in Canada. You can buy a SIM card for $10 at any Telus or Rogers dealer and then subscribe to their month to month plan and cancel when you are finished. I think that will probably be your best solution. You can check the websites to get the prices for their plans. I don't recall ever seeing a prepaid data plan.

We don't have much competition here, the big guys have it sewed up and the little guys don't have great coverage.

You need to stick with Rogers or Telus for the coverage you need. Check out the coverage maps on their websites, it will show you where their service is. Telus used to have the best coverage but I am not sure that's the case anymore. Rogers has widened their network while Telus has relaxed a bit.

Good luck.
